French telephone books #france

pinardpr@...

Dear SIG,

I found one resource for accessing historic French telephone books.
They appear to have a virtually complete collection going back to
the year 1883.

Bibliotheque historique des Postes et des Telecommunications
URL: http://www.bhpt.org/

Email address: bhpt@wanadoo.fr
Unfortunately, however, their mode of operation is neither very
user-friendly nor modern.

One can write them the family names, city and period(s) of time
sought and they will look into it and make photocopies >from the
books for a fee of 30 Euro cents per page. Good luck to everyone
not living in France using that method.

I wrote back suggesting they scan the books and sell them as CD's,
or better yet, post them as readable files on-line somehow.

On peut esperer.
Shalom >from Prague,

Rick Pinard
