On the website entitled: Royalterra Jewish Genealogy I found a number of
persons with my family name.

The names are organized in some form of descendant trees and family group
sheets. A friend of mine also found various members of her family listed on
the website.

My question is this. Who placed these names on this website and is there
a way to contact the web site? There is no contact address on the website.

ProQuest Now Using Ancestry's Interface for Heritage Quest Online #general

Jan Meisels Allen

In response to several inquiries made to me about the change of Heritage
Quest Online which is usually accessed by public libraries, they have
changed their interface to a new one powered by Ancestry.com. This was
announced by ProQuest earlier this week in a release which may be read at:
http://tinyurl.com/ps66759

Original url:
http://www.proquest.com/about/news/2015/ProQuest-Advances-Genealogical-Research-with-HeritageQuest-Online.html

While those who wrote to me expressed disappointment with the new process,
it's a learning curve and there are enhancements as expressed in the
aforementioned release. It has a new image Viewer which makes it easier to
share images with family and friends. The new version of Heritage Quest is
available to all subscribing libraries - check your local library to see if
they are a subscriber.

ProQuest has a long standing relationship with Ancestry.com and markets
their product library editions. This is part of the expanded partnership and
distribution agreement they announced in June 2014. ProQuest is also known
to those who research historical newspapers to libraries and for their
ongoing support of the IAJGS Conferences by providing the conference with
all of their historical newspapers for one long research day.

I have no affiliation with Ancestry.com or ProQuest and am posting this
solely for the information of the reader.

Personnel records for a NYC policeman #general

Dear Genners,

According to various census records, a possible relative, Michael
MANDELSTEIN, was a member of the New York City police force >from
at least 1925-1940. I'd appreciate suggestions as to how to
learn more about him through NYC police personnel records, etc.

Thanks.

Evan Fishman

Researching:
MANDELSTEIN, UDIN, ADELMAN, LISNITZER, BURSTEIN, PRESSEISEN,
in various locations in Ukraine; FISHMAN in Terespol, Poland

MODERATOR: A reminder to please type family names - and *only* family
names - in upper case (capitals). It makes it easier for anyone casually
scanning these messages to spot names of potential interest. If the
Moderator has to retype them (as above), there's always the risk of
introducing typographical errors.

ViewMate picture # 2 - asking for your opinion #germany

I've posted a picture on ViewMate for which I would like your opinion.

This online photo shows a shop in the town of Czempin (Posen) with the name
LEDERMANN in very large, clear letters above the shop door. It looks so
clear that it almost looks photo shopped. I am comparing the picture of the
shop itself with the surroundings, and the shop looks so much clearer...even
the two trees are different in clarity and intensity. Do you think it is
"real" or "fake?"

It is on ViewMate at the following address ...

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much. Barbara Algaze Los Angeles, California

I've posted a picture on ViewMate for which I would like your opinion.

This online photo shows a shop in the town of Moschin (Posen) with the name
LEOPOLD GERECHTER in very large, clear letters above the shop door. It looks
so clear that it almost looks photo shopped. The GERECHTER name is so much
clearer and darker than any other part of the picture, even the name above
the other shop. I can't figure out if it is "real" or "fake." What do you
think?

Translations of some German terms #germany

Irene Newhouse

A cousin and I are translating German documents relevant to our joint
ancestry into English for our non-German-speaking relatives, and we've
gotten stuck on some terms.

How should we translate Rabbinatsassessor? Umschlagsverwalter?
Vorstandsmitglieder (in connection with the Jewish Community)?

Is there anyone with a mining engineering background who can help us
with "Bleie und Glaette"? (One relative was in charge of B&G.)

There are only a very few search engine hits, all to old mining
engineering texts in German, which doesn't help very much.

Thanks so much in advance! Irene Newhouse, Kihei HI USA einew137@...

New Website about Hungarian Jewish Past #hungary

cia@...

A huge thank you to Karesz Vandor for bringing this wonderful website to the attention of h-siggers. I was able to locate photos of the synagogues in several towns where my family once lived. As well, I was able to find photos of the synagogue in a different town for a 94 year old lady who survived the Shoah (her sisters did not). She was very moved by the sight of what was lost.

For any one interested in current developments regarding the new Holocaust museum in Budapest, check out Hungarian Spectrum March 6 posting.

Let me draw your attention to a new website: http://zsidomult.hu/ (zsido
mult or Jewish past in Hungarian).
The site is expanding continuously and the editors will be grateful for any
updates, stories, memoirs and pictures. They are trying to set up a
web-based encyclopedia of Hungarian Jewry.
The website is edited by staff of the Tiszafured-based Menora foundation and
