Free Webinar: The Ins and Outs of IGRA's Database Collection #general

Elena Bazes

A free webinar, The Ins and Outs of IGRA's Database Collection, is
now available on the Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA) website.
This recorded lecture is a good introduction to the IGRA website and,
in particular, the All Israel Database (AID) collection.

The webinar will cover not only what is available on the website, but
how to look for records in a variety of places and how to best make
use of the IGRA website and databases.

This webinar by Garri Regev, IGRA's Immediate Past President, was
broadcasted in the spring, but due to technical difficulties, there
was no sound. We apologize. Garri has re-recorded the lecture which is
now available free of charge.

If, after watching the recorded lecture, you still have questions,
please send them to webmaster@genealogy.org.il and we will do our best
to answer.

To view the webinar, go to

Vienna to Budapest in 1938 - records? #austria-czech

tompa@...

Many Hungarian Jews were deported to Hungary soon after Austria's
Anschluss by Germany in March 1938. This was the case for my father
and his brother and parents in 1938. Being Hungarian, it wasn't a
matter of choosing where to flee: they weren't given a choice of where
to be deported. In the case of my father and his brother, they were
arrested, escorted on a train to the Hungarian border at Sopron by
police, and told to cross the border and never return.

Citizenship #austria-czech

Hi,
I'm interested if anyone has gone through the process recently
of getting dual citizenship with Austria >from USA?
I know it was doable some time ago, but I've a feeling that
it has become more restricted, and I have not found many answers
online. I'd like to be as prepared as possible before I approach
the Embassy. Any information is appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Kasniercy or Kasnierey?? #hungary

Kaposmero was in Somogy county. There is a list of places in Somogy at
http://www.bogardi.com/gen/g146.shtml that includes Kaposmero in the Kaposvari
district but I donâ??t see anything on the list that looks like Kasniercy or
Kasnierey. I also searched the 1913 Gazetteer for place names starting with the
prefix â??Kasâ?? and didnâ??t see antying that might be a match.

Nyir means birch in Hungarian and there are quite a few places in Szabolcs county that include Nyir as a prefix but none appear to include â??nyirâ?? otherwise.

This all leads me to conclude that the place listed in the source is either incorrect or itâ??s not in Hungary.

Greetings,

A Sh'arit ha-pl'atah entry for one of my ancestors lists his birthplace as
Kasniercy. I have assumed this is an error in transcription or communication, as
I do not receive any hits on Google for such a place.

I have been under the impression he was born in Kaposmero, but perhaps I am
mistaken

An "Additional List of Buchenwald Survivors" notes his last known place as
Kasnierey, which I am also unable to identify. The only Google hits I get for this
spelling are other references to this record. Can anyone suggest the correct name
of a town in Hungary to which this might refer?

Thanks very much in advance,

Alicia Weiss

(Hungary) Zimmerman Family Home from Tokaji Part of Famed Royal Tokaji Winery #hungary

The Zimmerman family of Tokaji, Hungary were part of a Hungarian winery
dynasty. Miklos and Blanka Zimmerman and Lajos and Margit Zimmerman
represented the family's long history in cultivation and production of
wines. Their home still stands, and is now part of the Royal Tokaji
headquarters where after seven decades, plaques were placed in front of the
winery headquarters in the town of Mad recognizing the family history in
winemaking. The Zimmerman's along with the other Jewish families of Mad
were taken to Auschwitz. The plaques acknowledge the family's roots and
forced departure.

Tokaji, a dessert wine made of grapes grown in the country's northeast
region. The nectar has even made it into Hungary's national anthem.
