Hi,

More so or exclusively Hungarian, also written "Bernath" with a common nickname
version "Berko" and then Germanified to "Bernhard" or Americanized to "Bernard."

There are more variations to see at
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/GivenNames/search.htm (Enter "Hungary" in search
field) and also very interesting is that it's a common secular name for a man with
the Hebrew name "Dov" - you can see this at the same resource.

See also https://www.behindthename.com/name/berna10t

It can also be a surname.

Where is this quote from? #germany

Mordechai Perlman

I would appreciate if someone could identify for me in which
affadavit or testimony this quote, >from Ben Hecht's Perfidy, (p.135) is
from. Ostensibly, he is providing a quote >from Colonel Rudolf Hoess,
the commandant of Auschwitz:

And, testified Colonel Hoess, the work was always full of details
which his superior Reichsfuhrer Himmler did not fully appreciate:

"After gassing, the bodies had to be taken >from the gas chambers,
the gold teeth had to be extracted, the hair cut off to be sent to
German upholstery firms; and the bodies had then to be dragged
to the crematoria. There the fires had to be constantly stoked,
surplus fat had to be drained off the bodies for use by soap manu-
facturers, and mountains of burning corpses had to be constantly
turned over so that the draught might fan the flames."

This is of interest to me, because Yad Vashem holocaust researchers
have concluded that there is no evidence that Jewish bodies were
turned into soap in the holocaust. However, here the murderer
himself admits to it. I could not locate this quote in the standard
statements attributed to Hoess available to the public. But perhaps
in the 50's these files were available. Thank you,

Looking for an obituary for Anna Rosin in Los Angeles #general

Carol Rombro Rider

If anyone has access to Los Angelas, California newspapers, I am searching
for a death notice for an Anna Rosin. She died April 10, 1936.
I have a beautiful framed yahrzeit calendar and I would like to find a home
for it. It was found at a garage sale.

I am looking for a death notice so that I can find a descendant who might want it.

Thank you,

Searching the descendants of daughters of an Epelman family in Israel #general

Avraham Y. Kahana

Hi all,
I tried this search a few years ago and I am doing it again hoping
this time it succeeds.

In trying to trace all my great-grandfather's siblings whereabouts, I am now
working on locating Etti Epelman nee Schechtman, z'l (I assume >from sometime near
1880). I have some info on her descendants, but the main problem is I do not
have neither the husband's names nor surnames.

Etti was married to Israel Epelman z'l. The couple had 3 daughters, as far as I
know: Frida, Rosa and Batia. All 3 of them are said to have settled in Israel.

Frida had at least one daughter, Rivka. Batia is the only I have the husband's name
and family: David Brandt. On Rosa, on the other hand, I have one daughter - Eti -
and 2 of her children: Eli and Sonia.

Again, all Frida, Rosa and Batia are said to have settled in Israel. So all their
descendants must be living somewhere close to me, and we have never ever heard or
met each other. (Years ago I was able to locate the descendants of Eti's brother,
who also happened to have settled in Israel - but there I was, thanks God,
successful).

Thanks in advance,
Avraham Y. Kahana

INTRO- Researching family REGENSTEINER from Pflaumloch, HAUSMANN from Harburg, KUTZ from Deckingen #germany

barb276@...

Hello all! I just joined the group. I've been researching for about 5
years. I consider myself an intermediate in German Jewish Genealogy
research. I live in suburban Georgia (US). My native language is
English. I'm not fluent in any other languages but would like to
learn. I'm an intermediate on the computer and am pretty experienced
in using the internet.

My great grandparents are:
1) Julius REGENSTEIN (b. Joel REGENSTEINER) b. Pflaumloch 1826 d. 1914
in Atlanta GA
son of Lippman Joseph REGENSTEINER (also called Eleiser Lippman)
1788-1839 born & died in Pflaumloch and Babette (Pessele) HAUSMANN b.
in Harburg 1794 and d. in Pflaumloch 1851.
I've identified my great grandfather Julius's paternal family back to
my 7th great grandparents, including names and dates for most of them.

2) Matilda KUTZ b. New York City 1846 d. Atlanta, GA 1929 daughter of
Seligman (possibly also called Isreal) KUTZ b. Decklingen, Bavaria
1805 and d. New York City 1870 and Jette (Henrietta HAUSMANN b. 1814
Harburg and d. 1887 in Atlanta, GA
I have identified Matilda's parents names and year of birth and dates
of death and where they are >from originally.

It is highly probable that my 2x great grandmother Jetta Hausmann Kutz
is closely related to my 2x great grandmother Babette Hausmann
REGENSTEINER.

My primary goals are to find out more about my KUTZ & HAUSMANN
families and to expand my knowledge of all of the direct descendants
of my 7th great grandfather. I've entered the name REGENSTEINER in the
JGFF for the town of Pflaumloch and also "Anywhere". Until recently I
didn't know what town to use for my 2x great grandfather Seligman KUTZ
(immigrated about 1840 to NYC >from Decklingen) or his wife Jetta
HAUSMANN (immigrated to NYC about 1840 >from Harburg), but have that
info now and will enter it ASAP.
