It is usual, though, for a female convert to select and adopt a Hebrew
name (usually but not necessarily biblical, so she can take her pick).
It would be nice if she were to select a biblical name. Whatever name she
picks she will be known as "So-and-so bat Avraham ve-Sarah."

In this connection, it's perhaps interesting to recall that Jews under
nazi rule in Austria (perhaps elsewhere also) were forced to adopt a
middle name that presumably identified them as Jews. So when my parents
were granted passports to leave Vienna for the UK in 1939, the documents
identified them as Herbert Israel and Erna Sara Finkelstein.

Dzielnica Kazimierz or Dzielnica Kazimierzowska identified Kazimierz
District or sometimes it was known as Zydowska (Jewish) Dzielnica.

It seems quite weird to me.
Actually, www.jewhoo.com is NOT connected to Yahoo at all, as you can
plainly see if you read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

I have found it a well-organized and useful page for Jewish resources.

Thanks to all, public and private, who answered my query about Polish
names. It is for a book on Jews >from Slovakia, hopefully forthcoming very
soon.

AS for me, you asked for town and country. I live in Beersheva, Israel.
My immediate interest is in the Jews of Slovakia--but eventually I will get
to researching my Galician grandmother--who may have lived in Radomyshl.

Are any of you doing that shtetl [Radomyshl]?

If you know where he was buried, somebody must have paid. Most likely it
was one or both of his descendants. Check with the mortuary/cemetery. If
you don't know where he was buried, check the obits in the local paper for
the days immediately following his death.

Hope that this helps.

Subject: SSDI

This is a request to the most generous, well informed group of genealogy
people, the members of JG.

I have been trying to find the descendants of a first cousin who died 1990.
I have his SS#, last known address, DOB, DOD, etc.

I have a listing >from CSRA Inc. - Nationwide Death Index - XXI, which does
have a listing for him, giving all the information mentioned above

The SSDI, accessed through Ancestry.com does not have a listing for him.
Death Certificates >from the state are not available for another 40 years!

Can anyone suggest a way that I could find the addresses of his two sons.
I do not know anything about them except their names.

With many TIA,

Rony Golan wrote:

Does anybody know what would be an Angliced name for: Prive ?>>
Prive is a nickname to the Biblical name Zipora. The way >from Zipora to
Prive is: Zipora = Pora = Pore = Poreve = Preve = Prive. In Yiddish we
write the name Prive with : Pe - Resh - Yud - Vav - Vav - Alef.
You can not take A name in Yiddish or Hebrew and changed it to English
directly. If you take the first letter of Prive the Pr and take a name in
English with the same Pr like Precilla , Pricilia , or a name only with
the P like Pamela, Pearl or Petula than you have Angliced you name
Prive. You can take also the translation of Zipora what mean a bird and
find a name that like on a bird or a bird name.
