Carol,
Cs is probably csaladja (family). Bandika refers to a family member
Named Anrdew - Bandi is a colloquial for Andrew. And Bandika is a
diminutive of Bandi - meaning little Bandi, who thereofore could have
been a child pr very young man.

you
think this could be short for es Csaladja) and es Bandika. Any
thoughts
regarding CS and es Bandika?

2. I've been modifying the Munkacs burial information on the H-SIG

Bandika is the nick or cosy name for Andras, so in this context I
believe you are correct and it means his/her family and Andras or Bandika

If it is near birth date it could mean the place of birth

The name is probably Bezde'di. There is a Bezde'dfalva (Bezde'dvillage) in Trenche'n, Va'gbeszterce district, which is located NE corner of Slovakia close to the border with Moravia.

"Csal'adja" for Cs sounds correct. "E's csala'dja" (and his/her family)is a common phrase in Hungarian.

"Bandika" means little Bandi. Bandi is the diminutive (nick-name)for Andrew.

Leder/Dolina #galicia

I am searching LEDER family, which I believe lived in Dolina in what was
Galicia, now the Ukraine.

My great grandmother was Sime Paya LEDER, who married Moishe COHOS (also
spelled KOHOS, or KOSS)in Falticeni, Romania. They had 3 children -
Freida (Fannie, my grandmother, Ida, and Samuel, all of whom emigrated to
the U.S. afer 1912. Moishe died before that in Romania.

My aunt Ida married a cousin, Nathan LEDER, a member of the same LEDER
family >from Galicia.

One other member of the LEDER family is Mimi LEDER, a well-known Hollywood
director. That is all I know about the Leders, apart >from the close
connections we have with the cousins who grew up with my mother in NY.

If any of these names show up on your tree, please contact me.

Article on Brody #galicia

Heidi <hurich@...>

There's an interesting article about the city of Brody in today's Ha'aretz
English edition (April 24, 2003). Brody was once called the "Jerusalem of
Austria." It changed nationalities a few times and is now in Ukraine. Go
to www.haaretz.com and look for the article entitled "Brody between two
lines" by Ruhama Elbag.
