KALTER, KULMPT in Algiers #france

Logan J. Kleinwaks

Dear FrenchSIG,

I am researching a large KALTER family >from Galicia, and I recently learned
that a branch lived in Algiers for three years, >from about April 1893 until
about July 1896, before moving to Antwerpen. Strangely, the family lived
under the surname KULMPT in Algiers, reverting to KALTER in Belgium. As I
have never dealt with Algerian records, I would appreciate any advice as to
where I can find records concerning their stay in Algeria, and any theories
about why they may have lived there under an assumed surname. One member of
the family was born in Algiers, and they likely arrived >from Lutsk, Ukraine
(where a passport was issued to the head of the family, who had been born
there) or "Sekuran," a shtetl in Moldova (exactly which, I do not yet know,
as there are two candidates near Kishinev).

Thanks very much and best regards,

Logan Kleinwaks

Hello,

Hopefully some one may be able to help me.

1. I am trying to find out how I can get info on the Industrial School for Jewish
boys in Hayes, England. In the 1901 census, a 13 year old boy, by the name of Jacob
S. Pickholtz >from Russia, was a student there. My search is to find out who his
parents were and what happened to him.

2. In 1900 Annie Pickholz (maiden name Bedder) died a widow at age 32. She left a
4 or 5 year old daughter named Mary. Mary was born in London in 1896. My search
is to find out what happened to Mary. Might she have been placed in the Norwood
Jewish infants home? That has been suggested. Does anyone know how I can check
that out or have any other ideas?

3. Jacob Pickholz died between 1896 and 1898, daughter Becky age 2 died in 1898
both in London. Suggestions on where they might be buried and how can I check?

Thanks,

The Missing Identity of Hildegard Dondorf- *Success* & thank you #general

Rony Golan, Law Offices & Notary <golanron@...>

During the past year I posted a few messages concerning my research after
the missing identity of a young orphan girl, who came to Palestine after
WWII. Her identity was "lost": she did not remember her parents names, and
she could not find any records about herself.

After 57 years we managed to reveal her real name, and to go step by step to
her past, trying to figure out her whereabouts in the 1930's and 1940's.

A few months ago, we made contact with one of her sisters. This was not
simple to either of the sisters.

Just recently Hildegard went to Germany to meet her *two* sisters. There is
physical resemblance between the sisters, and the meetings were good. The
sisters intend to be in touch with each other in the future.

Many thanks to all the helpul genners, who helped throughout this special
research. We had people >from Brazil to Germany and England, >from west coast
USA to Israel helping us, through this list.

Your help was *great*.

Which USC archives would have birth records for Skole in the 1920's and what
instructions would a novice need to order three of those, based on known birth
dates? (I'm asking this for a Pikholz descendant in the US. The records he is
looking for refer to his mother and aunts.)

Best wishes for a happy, kosher and meaningful holiday.

BLOCH and RING: Kenty > Bystra > Biala > CT > NJ> PA > RI >NY #general

N. Ring-Kendrick <adamsny@...>

Dear JewishGen and JRI-Poland Subscribers,

We are searching the following individuals and trying to obtain death
records for those buried in the Jewish cemetery in
Bielsko-Aleksandrowice, listed below.

Herman RING was born 1850 in Nowy Sacz or Grybow. His death record
states: "he was >from Sandez, now Nowy Sacz." Around 1870
Herman moved to Kenty near Biala (Bielsko) and >from Kenty he went to
Bystra near Bielsko. Exact dates of relocation's are unknown.

Helene BLOCH was born Abt. 1854 in or near Bielsko-Biala, Poland ,
and died Aft. 1893 in United States? She married Herman RING AKA:
Tziv Hersh RING Abt. 1870 in Austria / Hungary. Later, we believe
she married Adolph KWASNY *RING?* which leads us to try and prove
this as fact or fiction. Vital records of my grandfather, Felix
Michael RING (Adolph and Helen's son) show Adolph as being born abt.
1855 in Heidelburg, Germany. That record is the only documentation
we have of Adolph and Helene together, and we lose all trace of
Adolph after Felix's birth in 1893 in Bridgeport, CT.
More about Helene at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/e/n/Nancy-R-Kendrick/?Welcome=1080480071

According to Herman RING's death record, Baruch BLOCH was Helene
BLOCH- RING (KWASNY's?) father. We would like a copy of Herman's death
record to learn what other details might be listed.

Salca (Sali) RING was born to Herman RING and Helene BLOCH in Bystra
house number 8. Salca died April 13, 1881 and is buried buried in the
Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice in children sector
"D".

On March 23, 1883 a son was born to Herman RING and Helene (Leni)
BLOCH. The birth took place in Bystra, house number 8. The child was
named Bernhard RING.

Herman RING died in Bystra house number 8, on July 21, 1884 at age 34
and is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice, grave
number: F-VIII-2272.

In 1885 a child was born to Herman RING and Helene (Leni) BLOCH in
Bystra. The child was born dead and was not named. The child is
buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bielsko-Aleksandrowice in children
sector "D".

We have documented proof that the following children of Herman RING and
Helena BLOCH immigrated to the United States and lived in:
Bridgeport, CT, until they went their separate ways to Pittsburgh,
PA (John and Felix RING), Providence, RI (Clementine RING DZIEKIEWICZ),
South River, NJ (Leopold RING and wife, Regina KISH) and eventually, Adams, NY
(Felix RING):

Leopold RING, b. December 17, 1875, in or near Bielsko-Biela, Poland.
1896 documentation shows that while in Bridgeport, CT Leopold became
a United States citizen. Leopold and his brother John may have
immigrated to the U.S. around 1889 or 1890. Leopold died in November
of 1916, but his body was not found until December 6th in South
River, Middlesex County, NJ. Leopold's obit. states the following:
"The deceased had lived in South River sixteen years and was
well known among the business men in Middlesex County, NJ. He
conducted a large grocery store and meat market on Williams Street
for a number of years. Later he opened a delicatessen store on Ferry
street. Following his business venture, he and his wife (Regina KISH
RING b. 1876 & d. 1941 in NJ) opened up a restaurant on Main Street
in South River, NJ, opposite the old post office. Leopold was born
in Austria and had been in the U.S. about twenty years. He leaves a
widow, a daughter, Helen, and one brother (?) and was a member of the
local Hebrew Association and an Orthodox Jew.

John Joseph RING, b. March 16, 1884, in or near Bielsko- Biela,
Poland; d. September 07, 1965, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA.
John's Social Security Record, vital records and Declaration of
Intent list John RING's birth year as 1883, 1884, and 1885. John
always listed his birth month as March. We are wondering if John
RING and Bernhard RING (listed above as being born March 23, 1883)
are one in the same?
