Borod (Nagybarod) Jewish History Project #romania

rjfriedman@...

I recently became aware of a local history project focusing on Borod,
Bihor, Romania (formerly Nagybarod, Bihar, Hungary). The project was
started by Antonia Silaghi, a teacher in Borod who would like to
involve her students in learning about the Jewish history of her
village. (Antonia reached out to me via the JewishGen Family Finder.)
If anyone has questions about the project or information to share
about family members who lived in Borod/Nagybarod, please feel free to
contact Antonia at: <antoniasilaghi@gmail.com>

Bob Friedman
Lamoine, Maine

MODERATOR NOTE: At present there do not seem to be any researchers
listed in the JewishGen Family Finder who are seeking family >from
Borod (Nagybarod), but perhaps seeing this town name will jog a
memory. It would be a good way to assist this teacher in her
thoughtful project.

Re: Nesvizh Ghetto #belarus

Bernice,

My wife is a 2nd cousin to the late David Farfel. I have copies of the
Yizkor book as well as David Farfel's book, the latter of which as I'm sure
you know is written all in Hebrew. Many years ago I began to translate the
book into English for myself; I got up to about page 35 when my poor Hebrew
skills overtook me.

One resource you may not be aware of is that Elka Farfel, David's wife,
recorded an oral history of more than 9 hours in Hebrew, a copy of which is
online with the USHMM in Washington, DC. The URL is
http://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/irn503159 . There is an English
index to the recording there. Elka passed away only a couple of years ago.
She was with David in the Naliboki woods during the war.

You may also want to check out the KehilaLinks page for Nesvizh which was
constructed many years ago, at
http://kehilalinks.jewishgen.org/nesvizh/nesvizh_home.html. In addition,
all the Revision lists >from 1834 onward are indexed in the All Belarus
Database.

Steve Stein
Highland Park, NJ

(I coordinated the most recent research projects for Nesvizh)

"If anyone knows where else I could find more documentation or personal
stories about
the survivors of Nesvizh ghetto, forest family groups, Nesvizh after the
liberation but
before the end of the war, or any personal knowledge of my family there, I
would so
appreciate your help."

Thank you.

DEUTSCH/BUKOVITZKI Families from SLONIM #belarus

David Slater

Hi,

My great uncle AZIK DEUTSCH (b.1890, d.1942) and entire family >from SLONIM
were victims of the Nazi Liquidation there in 1942. I found Pages of
Testimony at Yad Vashem on the family submitted in Israel in 1956. I am
trying to locate descendants of the POT Submitter, BILHAH KUZNETZ/KOZNITZ
listed as a a neighbor & a cousin, either of the Deutsch family or their
married daughter BASHKA BUKOVITZKI/BUKOWICKI. I am trying to locate
descendants in Israel of the KUZNETZ/KOZNITZ family based on the 1956
address suplied by Yad Vashem: Noakh 15, Kiriat Haim, which I believe is a
suburb north of Haifa.

Any ideas how to proceed? I do not speak Hebrew or read it well.

I have three relatives (one now deceased) whose "Jewish name" is Aaron.
Names in English: Aaron, Richard (once known to family as "Little
Aaron") and Arthur.

My father's first name was Samuel. His mother called him Schloime --
which, I've been told, is Yiddish for Solomon.

Thanks to all everybody that replied to me. People pointed out that the
Rhode Island Jewish Historical Association will do lookups for the
Providence Jewish Herald, which they have in their archives, so I'm
going to do that on Monday.
