Where is Rosendot, Poland? #galicia

Sheldon Rabin

According to documentation that my grandparents, Morris Rebensaft
and Ettel Sara Perlmutter, took with them when they came to the states,
they were married on 17 August 1919 in Rabbi Rocker's office in Rosendot,
Poland.

I cannot find Rosendot on any map or reference, but since Morris was
born in Radymin (probably Radymno today) and Ettel was born in
Rozwadow (as was my father), I assume Rosendot was nearby and in
Galicia. Does anyone have information on Rosendot?

Many thanks,
Sheldon Rabin

JRI Poland #Poland Elunow, Grzhlarowic - Poland #poland

false <fdbaran@...>

Searching the JRI database for the NISKIER family I found two siblings,
Berek and Frajda NISKER, who I suppose are related to my family. Both
were registered in Opatow but the town of birth is listed as
"Elunow, Grzhlarowic".

Want to know if someone knows where this town is located. Googling for
"Elunow Poland" I found a town named Ulanow in Nysko County. It seems to
be a good bet, but would like to read the opinion of other researchers.

By the way, Nysko can be good explanation to the surname NISKIER/NYSKER
(that is, >from Nysko, in Yiddish).

Many thanks,

Flavio Baran

Several days ago I posted a question on how to contact the Asociacion de
Genealogia Judia de Argentina (Argentinian Association of Jewish Genealogy). Most
of the responses I got were on the order of "Let me know what you find out!" So,
since others are interested, here is the email address:
consultas.agja@...

I was also given the name of a professional researcher, contact me directly for
details if interested.

Hi Genners, I have posted an image on viewmate#58973 . The image is of text
written in Hebrew on the back of a postcard with a picture of a young man in
uniform. The text is fuzzy but I would love to have an idea of the content.
I believe it has to do with the Menaker Family of Vilna. I would appreciate
any insight you could offer. Thanking you in advance for your time. Anne

Here are two great sites that should help with photography in the Russian Empire.

Steve Lasky's Museum of Family History has a lot about photo technology and
photographic studios, with many examples:
http://www.museumoffamilyhistory.com/pse.htm

An extensive Russian-language site: http://fototikon.blogspot.com/. It
lists 17 Berdichev studios but you have to search in Russian and the
discussion group format doesn't accept Cyrillic lettering.

From: spdenker@...
I have a photograph of my great-great grandfather taken in Berdychiv brought to
the United States in 1891 by his daughter, my great-grandmother. Are there
books about portrait technology and/or photographers in Russia that would help me
bracket the likely dates this portrait was taken?

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen genealogy software enabling Hebrew charts #general

M. Ronn

Hello JewishGeners,

Perhaps you can help me. I am looking for genealogical software that can print an
ancestor chart in Hebrew, along with Hebrew dates of birth and death.

I tried entering Hebrew data in Family Tree Maker, which works well with names but
it can't really do Hebrew dates of birth and death because it has no Hebrew-
language field labels and does not print this information right justified.

Please email me privately.

Thank you,

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Searching for MAYER family in Israel #general

Daniel Kester

I am looking for members of the MAYER (or MEIER or MEYER) family in Israel.

Oscar Hermann MAYER was born 10 June, 1907. He lived in Bruchsal, Germany and
immigrated to Palestine in May of 1938. Klaus Heinz MAYER (probably Oscar's son)
was born 13 May, 1934 in Karlsruhe,Germany, but also lived in Bruchsal and also
went to Palestine in May 1938. He may have been married to Luise.

from what I can determine, they both lived in Haifa. I have found online an
address of ** Sederot Hatzvi, in Kiryat Hayyim. The most recent mention I have is
an Oscar MAYER in the 1965 phone book.

I also have found a record of Klaus MEYER changing his name to Gad MAYER in 1947.

I would very much like to find out what happened to, and get in touch with, their
family!

Thank you,
Daniel Kester

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen My South Amrica request #general

Molly Staub

Thanks to all who responded about my relatives emigrating >from Argentina to
Brazil. I urge anyone who had relatives in Argentina to check the
immigration records, which provide much information including birth dates,
parents, occupations, etc.

Unfortunately, no such information >from Brazil.

Here's what I learned: the professions listed on my relatives' records were
doctors, pharmacists, and students. Thus they probably did not go to Brazil
for business purposes. Most of the oldest ones are buried in Argentina, so
clearly they returned and did not resettle in Brazil despite the political
situation. As has been suggested by some, they probably went to Brazil to
visit relatives or landsmen >from the Old Country. I was unable to uncover
any by that surname in Brazil.

We'll keep digging.
