I was the one who posted the name of Markus Dusinszky, age 42, and his
family >from Felso Dios. The village which is located about 40 km northeast
of Bratislava is now known as Horne Oresany. According to the 1848 Census,
Markus was born in Vagujhely now Nove Mesto nad Vahom (the Germans called
it Neustadt an der Waag). His wife, age 36, and six children were born in
Felso Dios. There was also another Dusinszky, Mihal age 75, listed
separately under Felso Dios but apparently related to Markus. Mihal was
born in Nadas (Trstin).

While searching through the 1828 census, I recall seeing a Salamon
Dusinszky living in Szomolany (Smolonice), a town that is just north of
Felso Dios. It appears that at least 90 percent of Dusinszkys (with
spelling variations) in Greater Hungary were living in Pozsony County in

As for the town of IZSNYETE, it is located in the former Munkacsi district
of Bereg County. Today, the town is called Zsnyatino, Ukraine and is
located about
12 km southwest of Miskolc.

Jewish cemetery in Gyor. If anyone out there wants me to look up names or

I support the concept of clarifying what territory H-SIG covers and whether
the current name is representative, as most of my relatives past and present
live in Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. At the same time
we don't want it to get so big that it becomes the Central and Eastern
European SIG.

cover a larger territory or a smaller territory than our current
"Greater Hungarian SIG"?

In theory (depending on the answer, I guess), I think the Vienna group
from Ger-SIG would seem to have a lot in common with us and the change
in name could make things much clearer. I'm not sure anyone besides us
knows what "Greater Hungary" is, anyway. H-SIGers are already
interested in records in Vienna (military records, at least), and the
cultural overlap is obvious. The only negative aspect that I see is
that I rather like our small, intimate discussions and expanding the
discussion would be rewarding but ultimately less informal.

A little condensed geographical history of East-Central Europe may be in order: Prior to 1867 when the dual monarchy was created, there was only the Austrian Empire which comprised Greater Hungary (AKA as pre Trianon Hungary - Trianon was the name of the treaty that dismembered the Austro-Hungarian Emprire after WWI, and resulted in Hungary loosing 2/3 of its previous territory*), Austria, Bohemia, Moravia and after the partition of Poland in the latter part of the 18th century, Galicia as well.

* A map of Greater Hungary can be found on our website. Greater Hungary never existed as an independant political entity except in the dreams and aspirations of Magyar patriots (my maternal grandfather included). LS

I understand Aschner Lipo't was a reknowned industrialist in Budapest. There
is a street, Aschner Lipo't Te'r. named for him. What district is this in? He
is buried in the neolog cemetary at Mohacs. He survived WWII and died around
1952. In the 30s he live in Ujpest. what district is this?

Does anyone know anything about him, where "his" street is, why he was so
honored, and of course, anything about his family. Patai's book referrs to
relatives Jakab and Otto. Aschner is not a very common name, mine come >from
Vienna, Hradiste and Kosice. I've been in touch with Klaus Aschner who was
born in Breslau. I notice a number of Aschner deportees >from Trnava.

Any extra input would be most appreciated. Thank you and see you at the
conference.

Eliezer(Laizer)HOPKOVIC.
She had two sisters:
Shprinza who married (in Dukla,Poland ca.1909) Haim Zvi Hoffshteter.She died
at a young age.
Zelda married David Ellner,An opera singer and hazan.They lived in Mattesdorf
before coming to the US after the war.
There was also a brother,Bezalel,who lived in the US for many years.
Does anybody know anything of this branch of Guziks?

I vote for maintaining the current scope of H-Sig. we have enough
trouble sorting out countries, name changes, etc. without
introducing new confounding information. As one subscriber, the
German SIG and others offer help to those with more German than
Hungarian ancestors.

when a critical mass is reached and sustained...not the converse.
