Grand Hotel, Bulawayo #general

Dr. Trevor Waner

Can anyone give me the names of the owners (>from about 1950-1970) of the
Grand Hotel in Bulawayo? I visited there in about 1965 when it was owned by
family who are related to my mother (GOSS).
Your help is appreciated.
Best regards to all,

Trevor Waner.

Dear Genners:
With the assistance of several genners, each supplying
pieces of the puzzle, and with the expertise and
personal contacts of Marc Manson, JGS Michigan
president (couldn't have done it without you, Marc!),
we have located the Detroit area family of Oleg Pronin
in Beersheva, Israel, formerly of Mogilev.
I am in email contact with, and have spoken to, the
family (as has Marc, who made the initial call) in the
US, who were very excited to find they had relatives in
Israel as well as still in Mogilev.
Oleg and his family were speechless. They are going to
have a family picture taken today to send to their
cousins, and the family there is in the process of
scanning photographs for Oleg.
We are now trying to arrange a telephone reunion, and
it seems a personal reunion in Israel, God willing, may
also be held very soon.
There are so many tantalizing coincidences to be
reported in this story, and a much fuller report will
be posted when we accomplish the last two items.
A family that has not seen each other since Oleg's
mother's aunt Zlate came to America in the 1920s, and
which has had no contact between the branches since
prior to WWII, was reunited in about two weeks. Wow!
Thank you, Jewish Gen, and our intrepid genners who
are always up to the challenge!

Germanovici, Golubicy, Leonpol, and Luzhek in Belarus #general

Batya Olsen <batya@...>

The Disna Uyezd Research Group formed to acquire and translate records
covering the population of eleven towns in northwest Belarus. We have
the 1850 Revision Lists for Bildziugi, Disna, Druya, Germanovici,
Glubokoye, Golubicy, Leonpol, Luzhek, Plisa, Postavy, and
Sharkovshchina. (This area was the northernmost part of Minsk
Gubernia and in its western section, included an area that had
previously been part of Vilna gubernia.)
Once translated, Excel or .html files of these records are sent to our
research group members and later are included in the ALD (All
Lithuania Database.)
To date, the records for seven of these shtetlach ( in bold above)
have been completed. We are now turning our efforts to
Germanovici, Golubicy, Leonpol, and Luzhek.

If you are researching any of these towns please contact me, Batya

the Date of Death listing. Carol Raspler, Delray Beach FL

Information for copy of death certificates. #general

Michael Fischer <miketran@...>

My great great grandparents who died in 1901 and 1916 are buried in Mt Nebo
cemetery. I call the cemetery to get their dates of death, but they have no
paper records >from that long ago. They looked at the stones for me but were
unable to give me any new information. I know the exact date for my great
grandmother, but that is all. Don't I need to know in which borough they
died in to know where to write to?

GORDON & WACHOVSKY #rabbinic

Y & A Fried <fried@...>

To Ravsig,

I am beginning to do research on one side of my family. I will be
making a trip to Lithuania in 5 weeks with a group of Rabbi and
Yeshiva students. Before I go I would like to get as much
information as possible. My maternal grandfather's maternal
grandfather was named R. Avraham Yitzchak GORDON >from Lithuania.
Unfortunately I don't have a city. The family tradition was that he
was a prominent Rav. I don't know if there is a relationship to Rav
Eliezer GORDON, Rosh HaYeshiva of Telz. His daughter Bessie or
Basel WACHS (WACHOVSKY) came to the US around the turn of the
century and passed away in NY and was buried in Staten Island in
the Chernoble society section. Does anyone know how to access the
cemetery records long distance to find a place of birth?

Thank you.
