Nagyselmec is now called Liptovska' Stiavnica (with a hasek on the
's'). Ruzomberok was formerly called Rozsahegy (not Rozsahegyi)

Looking for information on the Strelinger family who were born and emigrated
from Lipto Comitat Nagy Selmetz in Slovakia. I am unable to find this town.
Thank you
Moderator VK: The place you're looking for is Nagyselmecz, which was
in the Rozsahegyi district of Lipto megye. I can't identify the
present name on my Slovak map but can tell you that this place is on
the Vah River west of Ruzomberok (formerly Rozsahegyi) probably near
Sucany.

Dear H-SIGgers,

I found the copy of "Counted Remnant. . .", the 1946 book that lists Jewish
survivors who returned to Budapest, in the library (I believe the stacks) at
the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

The USHMM is a priceless resource and treasure-house if you are looking for
family lost in the Holocaust. It is in downtown Washington, very accessible
by the subway system; and the people who work there are as helpful and
patient as could be. (I am pretty new at genealogy.) They have a website
and I believe can help researchers by e-mail and / or snail-mail.

Re: Flying with a laptop #hungary

Dear Patricia:
I'd like to add something to what our great moderator had to say about
traveling with a laptop and being searched- which I agree with 100% and I
have also had the same clothing items set off the machines and result in
being wanded.

You asked if you have to go through security again when changing planes-
only if you leave a secure area- if you have to exit one terminal to enter
another rather than be able to walk to one to the other without leaving the
secure area- yes you will have to go through security again !.Just keep
smiling- because getting frazzled will not do you any good. You may also
have the "privilege" of a second search at the gate as they take random
people as they enter the plane to do second searches. At least on United
they do. Don't be surprised if you have to take your shoes off and put them
through the x-ray machine either. Some airports machines are set more
sensitively than others For example a pen in a pocket and a tea bag in its
"metallic envelope cover" set off the machine in Sacramento for my husband
this week, but did not do so in LAX.. go figure..

Moderator VK: Great advice! Keep smiling--and keep cool. Also, bring along a good book to help you while away the time while you're waiting on line....

Jonathan Borchard <jonborchard@...>

I am trying to locate a family called ISAACS-BEVERLEY, in the late 1800's
and 1900's, probably in London.

I have found a Deborah Isaacs-Beverley born 14th July 1894, daughter of
Geaorge Isaacs-Beverley and they are definately somehow related to me.

If anyone has heard of this family, could they please let me know.

Many thanks

Searching for family KOLTZ from Chicago #general

Robert Gleek <Robert.Gleek@...>

Have you ever heard of the late Gloria KOLTZ of xxx Sunnyside Ave,
Chicago? She worked for the Evans Furs Co. in the 1940s and died
in 1986, aged 84. She is thought to have been married to Pinkus
KOLTZ (who died in 1990). Pinkus had sisters Milly & Eva; their
kids were Lydia, Jeanette, Cyril & Linda. The surname could have
been changed to Colts or Coltz - and the cousins changed their
surname to Collis.
Any clues, ideas or suggestions are most welcome.
Thank you,
