GOLDBLATT in Passaic/Clifton, N.J. #general

Tamar Gold <trgold@...>

I am seeking any descendents, or anyone with knowledge, of my great,
great uncle named Yale Goldblatt. When he came to America, he settled in
Passaic and wrote poetry for the Yiddish newspaper, Der Tog. He may have
had a son named Sam. I think he arrived in America before the 1920's.
Anyone have ideas of how to track down this side of the family?

The email address is: http://www.proquest.com.

One could assume (for no extra cost) that the construction of an email
address for any given company might be as simple as the one for Proquest.

If not (since some smart businessfolk grabbed the names in anticipation of
the companies wanting to use them hence selling the company's name back to
it), then simply do a Google or other search.

Can anyone please advise whether the Shtetl "Neustadt" or similar sounding,is in Lithuania, or Latvia. I am
unable to find its location. Beryl Baleson balden@...
The Yizkor volume LITA contains a recently translated article about the very shtetl you are looking for:
http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/lita/Lit1607.html

I invite all of you to take a look at the Table of Contents of this valuable 2 vol. collection published in 1951 and 1967.

You'll surely be struck not just by the wide range of interesting topics,
but by how many of them haven't yet been translated. It is hard to
understand the lack of interest in supporting translation of LITA. So far
only eight persons have contributed to the translation fund and of these,
one person has given over two-thirds of the total amount.
All donated funds are used for a professional translator. Nothing can be

Beryl Baleson asked if the shtetl "Neustadt" or similar sounding is in
Lithuania, or Latvia. There are many Neustadts wherever German was spoken
(Neustadt= New city, or new town). Using JewishGen's "Search this website"
feature - the link in the home page taking you to
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen/Search.htm

you can find a ShtetLinks Page for this Lithuanian Neustadt, 157 kilometers
(97 miles) West of Vilnius (Vilna) and about 10 miles NW of Vilkaviskis,
very close to Lithuania's West border.

Naishtot, Lithuania (Kudirkos-Naumiestis)
http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/Naishtot/naishtot.html

It was known as Wladyslawow while Polish.

A search in the JewishGen Discussion Group Archives
http://www.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.isa?jg~jgsys~archpop
for Neustadt gives 115 hits, including at least also German Neustadts and a
4 mail exchange in mid June 2001 starting re. "Neustadt clarification"
referred to today's Kudirkos Naumiestis.

I am not checking for the existence of Latvian Neustadts, so I am not ruling it / them (?) out...

Hope this helps!

Looking in the Gyongyos (Gyöngyös) microfilms, I also found these numbers.
In the death records, sometimes they are followed by the abbreviation:
hasz.
hsz
h. sz.

They are house numbers (házszám).

Hi,

I have found the address Kormend 203 in the microfilm
I have been looking at recently. I was hoping some
erudite person would help me understand what it is
refering to. It is a house address? a section of
town?

There are various other numbers found in the films.
Generally they seem to have three digits. Sometimes
the locations are given just as Kormend without any
numbers.

Many thanks for your help with this!

Denise

Moderator: If you are unable to scan the record in which you
found this reference you will probably need to provide more info
if you'd like any assistance in deciphering this entry. What
was the heading on the column in which you found this entry?
What other information is provided in the same entry? What
language is the record? What year? What is the location
(county and town)? What country (pre-Trianon Hungary,
post-Trianon Czechoslovakia, etc. etc.)?
