Anyone care to translate some Hebrew/Yiddish #lithuania

J G

Greetings to all

I have 4 documents regarding the emigration of Gutman Schacht
from Lithuania to Eretz Israel. A bit too complicated to upload
them as a batch to viewmate on Jewishgen. Any volunteers who might
like to help, I would be happy to send the documents directly to you.
I will send to all volunteers. I have learned in the past, sometimes,
there can be varying translations when two or more people are
translating. But this is a good thing. Please contact me directly.

And thank you in advance

I have information on two Hirsch families living in Veszprem Megye and
I'm interested in hearing >from anyone with Hirsch ancestors >from
Tapolca, Noszlop, Devecser and Papa.

One family is headed by Natan Hirsch and Julianna Rapaport and the other
is headed by Moric Hirsch and Johanna Weiler. These people were born in
the 1820s.

I believe that I have thanked everyone personally, but I wanted to give
a special shout out to Merle Kastner of the JGS Montreal - the JGS does
such spectacular work, and they are always there to assist; Barbara
Zimmer for her thoughtful and helpful response, as always; and to Marcus
Shapiro and Rona and Joanna Becker for their suggestions and for the
time they spent searching on my behalf.

Using everyone's suggestions and the information they sent, I have now
made much progress. I still have to look carefully at what I have now
found to make sure that the questions I think I have are still questions.

Again, thank you all very much.

(Poland) Polish Regulation to Compensate Holocaust Survivors #general

Jan Meisels Allen

Poland has been the only Eastern European country who refused to provide
restitution of Polish Jewish residents whose property was confiscated during
World War ll. The new law (see below) establishes the requirements for
former Polish holocaust survivors to apply for a monthly pension. It is
estimated that 20,000 survivors worldwide will be eligible for the monthly
pension payment of approximately $130 per month under the new pension
program known as Legislation on War Veterans and Victims of War and Post-War
Oppression.

Both Jews and non-Jews are eligible-the eligibility requirements and the
article may be read at: http://tinyurl.com/muwvm7u
Original url:
http://www.thejewishweek.com/news/international/new-rules-pave-way-polish-expat-pensions

It is expected that the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany
will send out 12,500 applications to those believed to be eligible worldwide
and an additional 7,000 applications will be sent by Israel to its citizens.

The new negotiated rules permit direct deposit to foreign banks. The law
took effect last month-although it had been approved by both the Sejm
(Polish Parliament) and President Komorowski last fall and became effective
October 2014 for residents of the European Union and effective on April 18,
2015, for people living in all other countries, including Israel and the
United States. Originally, the requirement was that the pension had to be
deposited automatically in a Polish bank. The Polish government will be
responsible for the cost of wiring the money to claimants located outside
of Poland.

The form is required to be completed in Polish and in addition to names,
places and dates the applicant must relate what happened to him/her. The
list of organizations prepared to help survivors fill out the application
may be accessed at: www.polishrestitution.com/pensions. The Polish
government administers all applications and payments.

The Polish law requires the applicant to have a Polish address. The World
Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO), arranged for the Auschwitz Jewish
Center, under the aegis of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York
(JewishGen is an affiliate of the Museum of Jewish Heritage), to use its
address for free for those who need it. The Polish government will send
letters there and the Center will forward the letters to the survivors. The
WJRO statement may be read at:
http://polishrestitution.com/pensions/background/

The new Polish law also requires that a Polish veterans group vouch for the
legitimacy of each claim. To make this possible, both the American Gathering
of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants and the World Federation
of Child Holocaust Survivors have agreed to provide letters of endorsement.

The article implies that the compensation is only for the survivors who were
in Poland and not their descendants.

I know nothing more than what is in the article cited above. If you have
questions, please contact those mentioned in the above urls.
