Seduva / Shadove vital records / revision lists? #lithuania

Steve Stein

I'm wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of any vital records or
revision list records >from Seduva / Shadove >from the 1800s. There don't seem
to be any on the LitvakSIG or All Lithuania databases, i.e. all the records
that get matched appear to be >from other shtetls. Thanks.

Free USHMM program of interest to genealogists (March 14,15,16 various locations in Florida) #general

Lewis, Megan

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is presenting a free program in
Florida later this month that may interest many genealogists:

"Stolen Legacy: Nazi Theft and the Quest for Justice"

Dina Gold describes the Nazi seizure of her family's stately six-story
building and her extensive battle to reclaim it and rebuild their legacy.

The property served as the headquarters of the H. Wolff fur company, one of
the most successful international businesses in Germany. The Nazis forced
the sale of the building on Krausenstrasse 17/18, and after World War II,
it fell in the Soviet sector of Berlin, two blocks >from Checkpoint Charlie,
and beyond legal reach.

Join us to learn about the ongoing challenges of restitution and the
Museum's resources that individuals like Gold have used to research the
fate of family members and that others have used to build legal cases,
including the Holocaust Survivors and Victims Database and the International
Tracing Service archive.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. For

Re: birth record for someone born in Belgian DP camp #hungary

Steve Stein

Karesz,

I recently successfully researched someone born in a German DP Camp in 1947
(see my article in the upcoming issue of Avotaynu). It turns out the child
was not born ***in*** the camp but rather in a local hospital. He was
registered with the German government. My guess is that all births were so
registered, even if delivered by a midwife outside a hospital.

I suggest you look for your camp on the website http://www.dpcamps.org and
see what it says about your particular camp.
