Temesvar, Hungary #hungary

robertbhanscom@...

I have been trying to locate Jewish records for what was formerly
Temesvar, Temesvar megye, Hungary -- now Timisoara, Romania. A branch
of my TAUBER family was living there as early as the 1790s, and I am
eager to do more research on them. However, I've not yet been able to
find any of the early records for this community.

Does anybody know if such records exist? If so, how can I access them?

Thanks--

which kit to use #dna

Roberta Sheps

Could members please tell me which kits they have found most useful? I'm
pretty clear up to great-grandparents on all sides and some collateral
relatives at the same level. There are a few whose shtetl of origin aren't
certain. I live in England where the biggest selling company is
Ancestry.com and I use Legacy as my genealogical database and they have
their own dna testing kit, My Heritage DNA. I'm interested in my
pre-Lithuania , pre- Belorussia and pre- Ukraine origins

I wouldn't say money is no obstacle, but it is a consideration.

Looking forward to hearing >from you,

Roberta Sheps

ROSENBAUM in Tveria/Zfat-19th cent. #general

Yonatan Ben-Ari

My ggggrandfather Yisrael of Ostrow came to Israel in the first half
of the 19th cent. Sources in my family believe that his family name was
ROSENBAUM but there is no definite confirmation of this. His children,
who stayed in Galicia adopted the family name SCHECHTER according to
their profession (Shochtim=Ritual butchers)

"Sefer Tveria" published in the 60s (or 70's?) has a list of family
names which appear in various sources without any note as to which
sources, first names or dates. The list does include the name
ROSENBOIM (its in Hebrew so I'm not sure of the English spelling).

Does anyone have knowledge either of my ancestor Yisrael of Ostrow or
who the ROSENBOIM who appears in "Sefer Tveria" (above).

TIA

Yoni Ben-Ari, Jerusalem

Dear Friends:

L117 is one of the markers used to identify E1b1b1. Another such marker
is M35 or M35.1 (i.e, E-M35, E-M35.1). You can find more research about
E1b1b1 by using the names E-M35 or E-M35.1 in searches.

A current problem for anyone researching YDNA is that the nomenclature
regularly changes and evolves. In that context, the YDNA haplogroup
E-L117 (if that has not also changed) has undergone several name changes,
and is still often referred to as 'E1b1b1' or even 'E-3b'. Google those
'E codes' and all becomes clear, as there are numerous references to the
Jewish link to the haplogroup including
