ViewMate Translation Request re marriage certificate of the late Rosa LICHTENSTEIN & Friedrich Wilhelm Karl BURCHARD - German #general

Dave Lichtenstein

Hello Everybody

I've posted vital records in German for which I need translations. It is
available on ViewMate at the following addresses...

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM71071

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM71072

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM71073

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM71074

I believe that this is a marriage record between my paternal Great Aunt Rosa
LICHTENSTEIN and Friedrich Wilhelm Karl BURCHARD. The record spans two
pages (hence VM71071 and VM71072 and VM71073 and VM71074). As far as I can
ascertain the "original" underlying record (designated #436) remains
unchanged for the two different versions of this record, yet that additional
writing in the margins of these records seems to be different for the two
versions (and hence my designation of these records as versions).

Of course I am interested in all the vital record information which appears
in these two versions and also what the additional marginal notation refers
to and why the two different versions.

Thank you very much.

Hi Sam,

Shaia Hausfater's birth was indeed registered on July 29th 1885.
Not in Focsani, not in Bacau but in Targu Neamtz.
There, "Nathan" and "Molly" had 10 children. Might be that later they
moved elsewhere.
Our team (the Botosani research team) has acquired and indexed the
records and they are available privately. If you are interested,
please contact me privately.

The roots of William Fox in Hungary #hungary

adlerdavi@...

Dear colleagues

I am intensively looking for the specific link between the father of
my grandmother named Rabi Shimon (Simon) Fuchs and William Fox (the
well-known Filmmaker that nowadays Fox network etc. is on his name).
The close link between these two branches of the family was well known
to the previous generation of my family, but it is unknown today.

R' Shimon Fuchs was born In Hidasnemeti (in Hungary 2-3 km close to
the Slovakian border on E74) on June 15, 1861. He was married on
November 19, 1884 to Sali Weingarten in Siroka. He was buried in
Presov on 1933 (well documented). His parents Joel and Katy (nee
Weinstock) lived at the time of his marriage in Boldog (Bodokovarlja).
According to some other records his parents lived also in Felso Mera
and his mother name could be Katy Weinstein (and not Weinstock). Joel
died prior to 22, October, 1896 (when Shimon`s child Joel was born).

On the other branch: Michael (Mihaly) Fuchs (1856) is William's
(Wilhelm) FOX (Fuchs) (January 5, 1879) father. Michael father Marton
(Mordech) (1814-1888) was born in Hidasnemeti (where also Shimon was
born). Marton wife Beti (Gutman) (1818-1890) and all the following
offspring were born in Tolcsva: Herman (Hershke) (1848), Michael
(1856), and Moritz (1862) who seems to be Moshe David (1861). In
addition, they have the following daughters: Rozalia registered also
as Sara (1845) who was married to Hirsch Kohn on (1875) and Hani
(1850).

I assume that Simon's father, Joel, is the (younger) brother of Marton
or his nephew but I have no evidence on either. I would be much
obliged If somebody could enlighten on the link between the two
branches.
Many Thanks

Chicago area cemetery photo request #general

bernerfolk

Thanks to all who responded to my query about Chicago and Suburban
Cemetery. There's no information specific to that cemetery but it
appears to have been renamed Menorah Gardens and is under the auspices
of the Waldheim Group (though it's several miles >from the Waldheim
cemetery).

The Waldheim office provided the exact location and a map for Hyman
SCHNEIDER and three additional family members in the plot. If anyone
goes to Menorah Gardens I'd very much appreciate photos as it appears
they're in the 17% of this cemetery that hasn't been photographed by
findagrave. Please contact me privately for the details.

Name Changed On Arrival Manifest #general

Joe Bratspis

Izak ZEHNER arrived in New York aboard the Lituania on May 20, 1928.
The manifest has his family name type written as ZEHNER. Handwritten
over his family name is the name CENER. In America, he was first known
as Isak, then Isaac, ZEHNER.

Isak's son, Gershon, arrived in New York on the Copenhagen on
September 28, 1930. The manifest has his family name type written as
ZEHNER. Handwritten over his family name is the name BRATSPIS-F-CENER.
In America, he was known as Gerson ZEHNER. The BRATSPIS name can be
explained as his mother's maiden name was ZUCKER-BRATSPIS. Thinking
perhaps his father was somehow connected to a CENER family, I
searched for the name CENER in JRI-Poland. There were many results;
none with the name CENER and many with the name ZEHNER.

I think it unusual to have a name overwritten on an Arrival Manifest
and here is an example of it happening two times in a span of two
years to a ZEHNER family member and both times the name involved was
CENER. Is there an explanation?

Researching:
BRATSPIS (Zolinia, Rohatyn, Zurawno, Galicia)
TENENBAUM (Grodzisko)

Thank you,
Joe Bratspis

International Tracing Service: Dachau Concentration Camp Card Index Found; Changing Its Name #general

Jan Meisels Allen

The International Tracing Service (ITS) uncovered a card index of
photographs of survivors >from the former Dachau concentration camp of about
2,000 photographs dating >from the first year following the war. The card
file had gone unnoticed for decades. It was created for those Nazi victims
who needed certificates of their being imprisoned to receive support from
relief organizations. The survivors had to provide two photographs of
themselves, one for the files and one to be attached to the certificate. The
documents have been indexed and digitized so that they are searchable by
name or birthdate. This new find will go online in the Spring of 2019. To

dictatorship are disappearing, there is a worldwide spread of right-wing
ideologies. The new name and new image will address the public with
projects, exhibitions, and education on the consequences of anti-Semitism,
