More accurately the NY Worlds Fair of 1939 was also 1940.
There was also one in the early 1960's maybe 1964.

Mission impossible Hebrew text gravestone Del Valle #general

Rene <106141.360@...>

Dear readers
David Salom Del Valle ( 1702- 1774 ) was burried in Rotterdam.

I enlarged and sharpened the contrast of his gravestone which shows Hebrew
text I am not able to bring home !
Extra information : David was married to Sara de Abraham de Casseres
(Caceres)

His tombstone may be partly viewed on my homepage, see :
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/VanWijngaarden/jewishge.htm

Below the text I could decipher for the greater part myself

Sepultura
Do Bem Aventurado
Hum... Eve Edho <-------------meaning
unknown to me
David Salom Del Valle
Faleceom Teberh
Anno 5535
Que conresponde
com 17 dezembro
Anno 1774

I would be very indebted to you if one of the readers would be so kind as
to take a look at this homepage and perhaps try to translate some parts
that are readable.

Metropolitan Opera Buffs: Help! #general

Steven N. Lewis <lewissn@...>

I am somehow related to Sophie Breslau(er), who sang with the
Metropolitan Opera around the time of the First World War. My
grandmother visited her backstage while on her honeymoon in 1916. My
Breslauer family settled in the Baltimore/Washington area, and they
emigrated >from Grossenbuseck, Hesse (not far >from Giessen) in 1845. I've
checked some general opera guides but haven't found any genealogical
leads about Sophie's life. I even found an old news story with a photo
in the NY Times but can detect no family resemblance! Any suggestions on
how to track down information about her relatives? Thanks! Nancy Breslau

Has anyone ever heard of the following clubs or associations active in
New York City in the 1920's: "The Viger Club" and "The Grand Street
Boys"? I am not certain whether these were simply social organizations
for a group of people who grew up in the same neighborhood or formal
organizations.

I checked the Italian Directory on the Internet and one of those 18 living
today also happens to be named Nicola Cantante. You should write to him and
see if he is named after your ancestor. It would be quite a coincidence
otherwise.

Searching: JAMESON family in London #general

Avraham Steiner <steiner2@...>

My great-grandfather, David Jameson, died in London in 1888.
I am looking for the family of his brother, Barnett Jameson, (born abt
1850) and I Think they never left the Uk.
I have tried to find out if there are Jameson Families in London using
the whitepages online and some e-mail directories like whowere , it
seems like this is a very common name.... . .

Does anyone know how can I get a list of the Jewish Jamesons in London?

Thanks

Are naturalization records >from the 1960's available. The person in
question would have been naturalized in New York in the mid 1960's. How
would I obtain copies of available records?

Paul,

You said,
"The letters are aleph--beit--yud--nun--vav, hey--yud--kuf--rash"
This means "a've'nu ha'yakar" - our dear father

"vav--rash--hieroglyph"
What do you mean by hieroglyph?
