ZIMNOVITZ in Argentina #latinamerica

Jose Gutstein <jmg-miami@...>

In the Lomza Yizkor Book online database appears the following:

Name: Zimnovitz, Yitzchak
Comment: In Argentina
Last Name: Zimnovitz
Reference Code: TEXT
Source Index: 96

There is only one known ZIMNOWICZ person in Argentina (who I found quite by
chance a while back as her name in the directory was misspelled to
ZINMOWICZ! She is related to me and is part of my 1000+ names Zimnowicz
family tree, yet she has no clue who this Yitchak Zimnovitz is, who at some
point lived in Argentina as is mentioned in the Yizkor Book. He could easily
be >from one of the many other branches.

Almost every single Zimnowicz >from Lomza gubernia has been proven to be
related to me. In fact, I've never found anyone with the name with roots
outside of that very small area.

Perhaps this Yitchak Zimnovitz in Argentina only had daughters who now go by
other surnames.

Does anyone in Argentina know of any Zimnovitz/Zimnowicz/Simnowitz
descendant?

Thanks,

Jose Gutstein

Hi Everyone:
I am researching the CHERNICOFF family in Argentina. They originally
came >from Chenigov guberniya. I have located several relatives in
Buenos Aires and Cordoba, but this is a very large family. Also
interested in BLUMKIN (Berta Blumkin married my great-uncle, Jacobo

Belarus SIG Website Now Online! #general

Risa E Heywood <risah@...>

We are pleased to announce that the Belarus SIG web site is now online. It
can be accessed at www.jewishgen.org/belarus.
The Belarus SIG was begun this summer at the Jewish Genealogy Conference in
Los Angeles. Its purpose is to aid Jewish genealogy researchers with an
interest in the gubernii of Minsk, Mogilev and Vitebsk.

The Belarus SIG has started a number of translation projects:

Translation of 1903 Russian Business Directory
Translation of the Minsk Yizkor Book name index
Translation and indexing of Mogilev Vital Records
Translation of the 1834 Borisov Revision List
Translation and indexing of Minsk Gub. Revision Lists
Translation of Senno 1861-64 Birth Records

The results of all of these projects will be available at our web site and
will eventually be part of a Belarus database. We are in need of project
leaders, translators, and, of course, financial support. To volunteer,
contact Dave Fox, SIG coordinator at fox@... . To provide financial
support, go to www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/belarus . In addition,
the web site will include an online newsletter. A newsletter editor is also
needed.

The SIG hosts a discussion group to which 210 people have already
subscribed, and the number grows daily. To subscribe to the Belarus SIG
discussion group, go to http://www.jewishgen.org/listserv/sigs_add.htm?.

Our goal is for this web site to become a well-used resource for Belarus SIG
members. We encourage you to send us your suggestions and additional data
to add to the site. Please visit the web site often. We have many exciting
additions planned.

When I lived in Ireland the Chief Rabbi was RAbbi Emmanuel Jacobowitz.
His wife, Emilie, was French >from Paris. Rabbi Jacobowitz is now Lord
Jacobowitz of England. I cannot tell you more than this as I have not
lived in Ireland since 1961 and Rabbi J. left Ireland about 1958 so it was
LONG AGO.

NJ Burial Society records? #general

A. E. Jordan

I am looking for the records of a New Jersey Burial Society by the name of
Moses Montefiore of Hoboken, New Jersey.

The cemetary where my ggf is buried tell me that the Society is defunct. I
assume that is possible but what about the Society records? I know the
Society was active as early as the 1920s and as late as the 1940s -- beyond
those dates earlier or later I don't know.

Maybe there is a Temple in Hoboken, NJ >from the period that it was associated
with?

American Jewish Congress or alike?

Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thank to all of the people who have
responded to my prior notes. This is system is great and the people respond
with ideas are the best.

"Mashi Shengel = Masha Sheindel #general

Judith Romney Wegner

My fiancee would like to verify her
Hebrew name; unfortunately, records are extremely scarce and we cannot
locate any documentation.

She recalls her name as being Mashi SHENGEL - is this a possible
Hebrew/Yiddish name for a girl?
Sounds as though she was probably Masha Sheindel, both being common Yiddish
names for girls.
