Jewish Orphanage Website UPDATE #general

MSpearssol@...

Another section containing Names of Orphans and Foundlings Interred in Free
Burial in New York area cemeteries has been added to my website, spanning
the years of 1880-1920. As of now it includes 116 children's names with
Genealogical Information and will be constantly updated as new information
is acquired . Because of the wonderful efforts of Florence Marmor and her
cohorts, I moved the few children's names that were contained on the JCCA
Page to this new page entitled Orphan and Foundling Burials.

Information includes: Names of Orphans and Foundlings - Death Certificates
with Numbers, listing Date of Death and Age - Location of Death and Burial
- Cause of Death - Parental History if Known - Plus Other Facts

Also this page contains:
Acknowledgements and special notes
Story of Seligman Solomon
Names and location of Named cemeteries

10 new URL links have also been added to the Jewish Genealogy Page and
Other Resources Page.

ALL of the above may be found on my website at

Crudec, Poland #general

Arlene Stein <dybuk@...>

I really need help with this one!

My mother, Rose (Ruth) TEITELBAUM LAMBECK, told me she was born in Sniatyn,
Austria, Galicia (now Ukraine) in 1908. The birthplace shown on her 1928
Declaration of Intention and on her 1930 Petition for Citizenship is
Sniatyn, Poland, and her last foreign residence on those documents is shown
as Jaslo, Poland.

Today I viewed the manifest microfilm of her 1922 arrival to US and found
that her birthplace is listed as Crudec, Poland, Galicia, and her last
permanent residence as Crudec, Poland.

Where is/was Crudec, Poland? I checked the ShetlSeeker and found 102
possibilites in Ukraine; 45 in Poland; and 9 in Austria, none of which had
the exact spelling.

Can anyone think of a logical explanation as to why she would have given me
erroneous information or, in the alternative, why the birthplace and
foreign residence information on the manifest is incorrect?

She and her older brother, Jack (Yankel) were brought here by their
maternal uncle, Nathan WEINBERG, of Newark, NJ, after the death of their
mother and then their father. Her age on the manifest is 12, although she
repeatedly told me that she was 14 when she emigrated.

All thoughts, insights and explanations will be sincerely appreciated.

Photocopy service for JRI-Poland Shtetl CO-OPs #general

Stanley Diamond

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland announces the formal launching
of the Toronto Photocopy service for Shtetl CO-OPs.

Shtetl CO-OP volunteers will now be able to obtain copies of their index
pages >from the LDS films of Jewish vital records of Poland, through this
convenient service without leaving their homes...

This new service solves a major problem for those CO-OPs whose
members do not have easy access to an LDS Family History Center.
This is particularly the case for our Israeli volunteers since there are
no LDS Family History Centers in Israel.

So, if getting photocopies was the only reason holding you back from
starting a Shtetl CO-OP or helping out with an existing Shtetl CO-OP,
your problem is solved.

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland extends its appreciation to
Stan Zeidenberg of Toronto who heads up the Photocopy Service
and to the JGS of Canada (Toronto) which has agreed to handle
the accounting side of the activity.

For details on how to start a Shtetl CO-OP to index the Jewish vital
records for the town in Poland where your family once lived, and
for more information on the Toronto Photocopy Center, check the
Shtetl CO-OP page on the JRI-Poland web site:
http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl.

Existing Shtetl CO-OPs, don't delay! Register your order for
photocopies of additional index pages with Transliteration and
Shtetl CO-OP Coordinator Hadassah Lipsius at <Kesher@...>

slander #general

Elevan@...

I realize that most subscribers to this list may be unaware of Jewish
prohibitions on gossip. Nevertheless, completely aside >from the question
of religious beliefs, I would suggest that we make some attempt to limit
unnecessary references to negative information about other persons,
especially living persons.

For example, specifically, Eric's post about his trip to Grodno and his
repetition of gossip which he had heard concerning Mr. Yuri Chaimovich
Boyarsky which portrayed him as dishonest and a liar. As we see >from Mr.
Yuri Scherbina's very helpful subsequent post, the information about Mr.
Boyarsky was very likely untrue.

I feel compelled to object to the slander of Mr. Boyarsky both as a fellow
Jew and because we could possibly be distantly related (my paternal
grandmother was of a Boyarsky family >from the Grodno area). Another example
would be the post about the Threatening Letter, however, at least in that
case, the person was not identified by name.

Could we all please just use the slightest bit of discretion?

sad news from the MOSKOW family #general

sheiala@...

Hello everyone. For those of you who have not already heard, Sheiala
passed away at 5:30 this morning. She was admitted to the hospital last
Friday with a blood clot in her leg, a normal side effect of the
pancreatic cancer. She unfortunately went down hill very rapidly from
Friday. All her family was with her, and she was aware of all of us
being there.

We're sorry to alert some of you by e-mail but we called as many people
as possible. The memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 15 at
11 am at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave, Annapolis, Maryland, phone
410-263-2222. She will be cremated so there will not be a burial. We will
be sitting shiva at mom and dad's house, 801 Cottonwood Dr. Severna Park,
MD.

In lieu of flowers, we are setting up the "Sheiala Ratner Moskow Memorial
Fund." Contributions can be sent in care of Laura Moskow Sigal, 2841 Elm
Ave. Bexley, OH 43209.

MODERATOR NOTE: Home phone number in Maryland deleted to prevent automated
scavenging, because of the public nature of this list. It is available
