Re: NYC Marriage Certificate #general

Instead of guessing, go directly to the links I have listed. The Vital Records
link gives complete information on all vital records for NY.

Vital Records Information - NY
http://www.inlink.com/~nomi/vitalrec/ny.html

This link allows you to print the application:
Application for Marriage Records
http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/doris/html/marriage.html

I had absolutely no problem by mailing a personal check with the online
application that can be printed at home on your computer printer. I received
the marriage records within one month.

Hope this helps anyone trying to find marriage records for NYC. The Vital
Records link also has information for marriage, death and divorce records.

Re: Shulie #general

Simon Barak

Shulie as a diminutive to Shulamit is common in hebrew and modern Israel.
A generation ago it used to be Shula. Taking into consideration the time
and language (Yidisch) I doubt that the mentioned Shulie was a Shulamit.

Jewish Chronicle B/M/D announcements #general

Judith Romney Wegner

Am I correct in recalling that someone was kind enough to inform Digest
readers a while back that somebody "out there" was in the process of
computerizing the London Jewish Chronicle B/M/D announcements -- beginning
from whatever year they started making those announcements back in the mid
19th century?

If that is correct, could somebody please remind me exactly who is doing
this? Thank you.

Baltimoreans ..please read #general

Kenneth J. <kshapiro@...>

I just left the Jewish cemetary in Rosedale...off of Philadelphia
road. Members of my family are buried in the section (first left)
through the "United Hebrew Cemetary Corp." arch. Some are in an
area owned by the "Progressive Sick Benefit and Relief Assoc.",
and others are in the "Bobroisker Beneficial Circle". What are
these groups? Do these give any evidence as to the synagouges
they belonged to?

Please e-mail me directly as I'm sure this is of little interest
to the group.

The town one comes from in Ukraine #general

Kohanski, Dorothy D. <dkohanski@...>

I have noted the discussion about the town of "origin" in the Russian
records is the town one was registered in. Does it follow that an
immigrant to the USA would use the town of registration as his/her place
of origin in subsequent US records - if a town is given at all. Case in
point - a delayed brith record of one of my relatives gave Olshanka as
the place of origin for his mother, who would be my great aunt. It is
the only clue I have as to where she was from. Does *from* mean born or
registered or what?
