Dear Friends -

I'm very grateful to all who responded, both to the List and privately.

It hadn't ocured to me to consider Gruppe 6 at Tor 4 but this can't be the
spot I'm seeking, given that Tor 4 was only opened in 1917 and Moritz Nowak
was buried in 1916.

I have no idea who Josef Jeiteles was - he might have been a relative, but I
have no knowledge of him.

The location seems destined to remain a mystery.

Hello,
I have been reading your digest for a while now,
and I am new to genealogy and family search:
I have started tracing some family, but what I
want to understand is how things happenned:

My grandfather Wolf FREIDLANDER (born in Itskany,
then Moldova) was living in Vienna. Father of two
children, he was happily maried, ran a successfull
business in the cloth trade (I think all over
Europe. And one day he lost everything, was no
longer allowed to live where he lived, no longer
allowed to run a business, etc... Has someone
written how all this came about? There must have
been some forewarning because he sent his children
to France where they survivied. He himself was
forced to live in a specified jewish street and
finally escaped also to France but must have been
given away for the Gestapo got him in Paris and he
ended in Auschwitz. His wife it would seem got to
England, but no trace since. Has someone written
how all this came about??????? What were the day
by day events????

Sincere salutations

searching for Warsaw cousins with 37 year old addresses #general

alan radack <alrack@...>

I learned >from >from my mother, Sophie (Koenigsberg) Radack that
she was related to the Wodzislawsky family >from Warsaw, Poland. Most
likely the relationship was through her mother’s family - the
Rzepkowicz’s also of Warsaw. Three Wodzislawska daughters. Helena
(Wodzislawska) Goren and Anya (Wodzislawska) Touroff and Marja
(Wodzislawska) Batavia had emigrated to the US.

A fourth daughter had not. She had converted to Roman Catholicism,
married and had 2 children (born between 1900 and 1910) and had survived
WW2.

One of the children became a physician and both had moved to Paris after
1945. Anya (Wodzislawska) Touroff’s daughter Eleanor Glueck had
became an important researcher and academic in the field of crime and
juvenile delinquency and when she passed on, her papers ,personal
and professional, were given to the Harvard University School of
Law.Through the courtesy of the Law School Library-Manuscript
Collection I was able to examine these papers this Spring and found
some references to Eleanor’s cousins ( who are probably Christian
descendants of the fourth Wodzislawska daughter) in a 1969 letter
to a Dr. Batavia. In this letter there was mention of a gift of
Eleanor’s extensive writings and reference materials to the Polish
Academy of Science in 1969 in honor of her mother Anja (Wodzislawska)
Touroff. Another letter indicated that a Mme. Stefa Djiumbenska of
Wanda,of Warsaw was a cousin who could be consulted in some way.

Cousins listed in the first letter were:

Miss Anjia Olszewska @ 17 Machnaki St., M30A, Warsaw 22
Dr.Kryptina Roszkowska, 5-A Katowicka St., Warsaw 33

Has anyone suggestions as to how I can find these cousins or their
descendants so that I might learn more of their family history .
Thanks!

Jewish Gen ID #169578
Searching: Nathan Nucum SPOLENSKY

Born 1885 Kherson, Russia, the family then resided in Novamirigrod, Russia.
Shatel is now called Novomyrhorod, Ukraine. The records I have copies of, are
his (Naturalizations Papers) stating he had left Southampton, England and
arrived New York City 1904 .at age 19, listed as a carpenter

To save all interested individuals who wish to help my search, and to save them
a great deal of their time and effort.

Note I have been searching my dad’s records for a long time, and at this point
accrued a great many documented copies of the history of his life in New York
until his demise. What I need desperately to complete his history record, is his
1904 ships manifest into New York City.

David Pinski's "Lamentations" #yiddish

Steven Lasky <steve725@...>

Greetings,

I have put online the prose poem "Lamentations" written by one of the
world's foremost Yiddish playwrights, the late David Pinski. In the July
1943 edition of the "American Mercury" magazine, Pinski delivered a striking
yet poignant message about the Holocaut that had befallen so many in Europe,
at a time when it was said that the United States had no knowledge of what
was happening in Europe.

SITE CITE - www.jgbs.org - Bavarian Schwabia database #germany

Alan Ehrlich

I'd like to draw the attention of gersigers to the recently opened "Jewish
Genealogy in Bavarian Swabia" Web site:

www.jgbs.org

As the name indicates, it serves Jewish genealogists with roots in Bavarian
Swabia, and in particular the cities/towns of Altenstadt, Augsburg,
Binswangen, Buttenwiesen, Ederheim, Fellheim, Fischach, Guenzburg,
Hainsfarth, Harburg, Huerben [u umlaut] -Krumbach, Ichenhausen, Kleinerdlingen,
Kriegshaber-Augsburg, Memmingen, Monchsdeggingen [o umlaut],Nordlingen [o umlaut]
Oettingen, Osterberg, Pfersee-Augsburg, Steinhart, Steppach and Wallerstein.

To date - thanks to data generously transcribed by Rolf Hofmann - a growing
interactive online database of 7179 historical Birth, Marriage, Death and/or
Circumcision records is provided for the locations: Ederheim, Hainsfarth,
Huerben-Krumbach, Kleinerdlingen, Moenchsdeggingen, Steinhart and Wallerstein.

Additionally, work by volunteers is continuing and further records/locations
currently or soon will be transcribed and added to the database.

The site also provides an online forum open all who are researching their Jewish
ancestors in these regions, as well as other useful information and links.

The entire "operation" is volunteer based; and access to everything
(databases, forum, etc.) is free of charge.

Finally, registration is required. Although it may now be possible to
register directly at the site, when I first visited there, online
registration was disabled; and a user name/password had to be requested
from: membership@... Best regards to all,

Alan Ehrlich Geneva, Switzerland <alan.ehrlich@...>

MODERATOR NOTES: Our system does not understand letters in your email that are
not part of the standard USA English computer alphabet. If you include
accent marks such as the "umlaut" your text will probably be garbled when
it is seen by our readers.

It is usual to add the letter "e" after the accented vowel to replace the
accent mark. However, this may make it hard to find the subject word using
the Archive Search engine.

Moderator has changed some of the above town names accordingly.

For best results we ask you to treat important German words including the umlaut
mark this way:

Moenchsdeggingen / Monchsdeggingen [o umlaut]

This will insure that your text is not garbled and also that the word will
be found by anyone searching the archives for either spelling.

You should keep this in mind when searching data bases for names and town names.
If you use an "exact spelling" search, you would not find Moenchsdeggingen
in a search for Monchsdeggingen, and vice versa. In the early days of my own
research I often missed data entries for my Lowenstein [o umlaut] ancestors
because they were alphabetized as Loewenstein. Be careful with printed indexes
also. Especially in German books, you may have to look for both spellings. MOD

Notes about LALLEMAND and SINZHEIM from GenAmi #germany

Micheline GUTMANN

In our Belgian file, it is possible to find:

LALLEMAND Joseph
He was in the business of wood for shipbuilding.
He received Letters of naturalisation between 1772 and 1774

In Mannheim, there was Abraham SINZHEIM who was a banker.
He married first Marguerite WEINHEIM then Sara LEVY in Metz in 1729.
I know 3 daughters but not Esther.
Abraham was the uncle of the Chief Rabbi of Alsace Joseph David SINZHEIM
then president of the Grand Sanhedrin of Napoleon in 1807.
