Hello!

Wonder if anyone knows which libraries that have the journal Hamelitz
on microfilm and if it is possible to order papercopies of some pages?
I'm searching certain advertisements which should be there in some
of the issues.
Hope to get an answer

I have seen many complaints >from people who send letters to relatives

In the spirit of Jewishgen, let's have a little "Thank you & please"!

ELCHANAN or ELKINS surname #general

Steve Elkins <steveelkins@...>

Hello-

My name is Steve Elkins. I would like to know if anyone has any
information they would be willing to share on the surnames of "Elchanan"
or "Elkins." I have been told by my uncle that my family contains the
direct descendants of a sixteenth century Dutch rabbi, Isaac Elchanan,
whose sons immigrated to England and became Christian and would eventually
go to the United States. Any information would be helpful, as I would
like to learn more about the rabbi's life and what compelled his three
sons to go to England.

Thank you,
Steve Elkins

Hebrew name equivalents #general

Foodphile@...

While we all realize that there are no set equivalents to Hebrew names,
it can be very helpful to know the original names of other peoples
ancestors, and the names they wound up using. Thanks to the kind people
who emailed me, I now know that my great aunt Ida might have been Chaya
or Yehudis (Yehudith, Yudith) before emigrating. This will make searching
Passenger Arrival films far less tedious.

Bell and Howell Model RP407E Microfilm Reader/Printer #general

Stanley Diamond

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Montreal is currently undertaking
a major indexing project of vital records for which we have acquired --
on loan -- a Bell and Howell Model RP407E Microfilm Reader/Printer
(ca. 1973).

Unfortunately, we need a higher magnification lens than came with the
equipment (x11). I have tried Bell and Howell and every re-seller of
used equipment I could find. I also posted on the Archives mailing
list. No luck!

If you can help or know where we may be able to find a lens, please
contact me privately.

Re the letter on the Digest, dated 13 April 2000.

So where exactly is Russsian Poland, as I have that too as the name of the

MODERATOR NOTE: In the JewishGen InfoFiles, there are a number

information that will be useful.
