Princess or Prisoner? Jewish Women in Jerusalem, 1840-1914 #ukraine

Rose Feldman <rosef@...>

For all of those who have roots in Eretz Israel in the 19th century and up
through World War I, I highly recommend reading the book Princess or
Prisoner? Jewish Women in Jerusalem, 1840-1914 by Margalit Shilo (translated
from Hebrew).
Even though my mother only arrived in Eretz Israel in 1911 at the age of 5
and lived in Petach Tikvah, this book gave me insight into the way of life
of my mother and her parents.

Re: Locating Merchant Marine Records #unitedkingdom

cyril fox <cyril@...>

Dear Faith:

I omitted to mention the Latter Day Saints.

If you go to LDS Family History Library Catalogue on Google, and in
"subject" type in "Merchant Marine" you will get several interesting leads
including:
Lloyd's register of British & foreign shipping, 1764-1880
Lloyd's Universal American Register of Shipping

regards

Cyril

Unethical researchers.... #romania

Rosanne Leeson <rdleeson@...>

Dear All:

With the beginning of the new year it is time for a cautionary reminder:

Due to the poor economic conditions in Romania there are many unscrupulous researchers out there. If you are approached by a researcher offering to do work for you following a message you have posted to our List, please contact your Co-Coordinators immediately! Legitimate professional researchers do not act in this way, so be very wary of any such responses. In particular, we'd like to have contact information and dates when communication occurred. If you have e-mail messages listing long headers and dates that could be useful as well.

Discovering names of siblings? #germany

Ally Burdett

Hi,
I have German Jewish ancestry, and recently discovered some
more names through looking at naturalisation records. I was
wondering how I would go about researching the names of siblings.
I've looked at the Jewishgen website, but haven't found anything
out, or if there is something relevant, I don't have enough information
to know it's relevant! Thanks.

My thanks to Aleksandrs Feigmanis in Riga for this information.

Re: Familien research help in Berlin , Elli REICH / RUBENS #germany

Ernest Kallmann

Contacting Beit Terezin (bterezin@ghi.org.il) might yield information on
a deceased female deportee by giving the maiden name, b. and d. dates.
This can include the married name.
