I'm one of the many who were given goggle-moggle as kids. We
experienced it in a Jewish context, but it's apparently more general
than that. My Russian dictionary lists "gogl'-mogol'" as "beaten-up
egg and sugar." In fact, when my Russian cousins and other immigrants
arrived here over the course of the past 20 years, I was surprised to
see how many family habits came >from a more general Russian (or at
least Russian-Jewish) culture.

Goggle-moggle was something both our mothers made for us. It must have been
fairly prevalent. My mother came >from TORUTINO, a village near ODESSA, while
my husband's mother came >from RAFALOVKA and he he was raised in ROKITNO. It
seemed to work!

Dear Robbi,
My mother made a guggle muggle which I hated. It is a very common remedy.

My mother used to make me "google-moogle" when I had laryngitis. It
consisted of an egg yolk beaten with lots of sugar. Does this sound like
your remedy? Perhaps remedies familiar to some families shows that these
remedies were used in certain areas.

There is a Gesundheit family in Cape Town South Africa. If Mr Gesundheit
is alive I do not know but they live in the suburb of Sea Point. I am sure
someone will assist with details.

In response to Flora's questions.....

Did Miriam transcribe just the indexed years or has she created indices
for
those years where such indices do not exist?
Miriam doesn't even look at the index. She painstaking reviewed each
individual record and recorded the information. As anyone would know who
has looked at the Warszawa LDS films, the indexing is very poor.
Sometimes
you will come upon an index but it only covers letters G-K. What happened
to the rest? Is it the fault of that 19th Century clerk or the 20th
Century microfilmer? I don't know the answer.

Among the names in Warsaw that I am primarily researching is
Bienenfeld; also Birnbaum and Gesundheit.
I assume that you have searched the JRI-Poland database for these names.
The surname GESUNDHEIT is the name of the Chief Rabbi of Warsaw. He was
a
native of Warsaw and died in 1878.

Keep searching!

Re: Possible solution for AOL 6 users #general

rokoco1@...

Dear Genners:

Last evening, my husband and I downloaded and installed AOL 6 with the help
of our friend, John Murray, who is a professional computer consultant.

John brought to our attention the fact that AOL 6 installs side by side
with the previous version, thus in theory, making it possible to keep both
versions on one's desktop.

After AOL 6 installed on our computer it went through a series of questions
with defaults programmed in. The only default I changed was to have it
_Copy_ my files to the new version rather than to move them.

Sincerely,

Bobbi & Jerry Cohen

I would be grateful for any insights as to what the first names are
on the 1901 New York Birth Certificate, which can be viewed as file VM095
on the JewishGen ViewMate site. I know that the surname is Rothblatt, but
am at a lost as to what the first names of the newborn and the father
are. Thank you
