Re: Searching for LANDSMAN family #general

Robert Mandelbaum

I'm searching for the descendants of my great-great-great-aunt, Rose
Klein Landsman, who lived in New York City (probably either Manhattan or
Brooklyn) in the early part of the twentieth century. Rose had a son
Samuel Landsman, whose wife was named Esther and whose daughter was named
Rhoda. Any information on the whereabouts of Rhoda or any of her
descendants would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Searching for descendants of Olga BURAKOFF (MELAMED/SEIGEL?) #general

Robert Mandelbaum

I'm searching for the descendants of Olga Burakoff, whose married name is
uncertain, but which might have been Melamed or Seigel. Olga was born in
Europe in approximately 1887 or a little earlier, and lived in New York
Cit after coming to the United States prior to World War I. In the early
1930s, it's possible that she lived in Brooklyn, and that one of her sons
worked as a lifeguard at Brighton Beach. By around 1953, she definitely
lived in "a non-Jewish building" in downtown Manhattan on Third Avenue,
right near the Daily Forward. Her husband had worked in a factory and had
had an accident in which he fractured his hip, which affected his ability
to work. Olga died in the late 1950s or early 1960s in New York. Any
information on Olga's descendants would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Searching for descendants of Irving BURKE (born BURAKOFF) #general

Robert Mandelbaum

Irving Burke was born Irving Burakoff but changed his name during or
shortly after World War I, in which he was an American soldier. He was
born in Skidel, in Grodno Gubernia, in what was then Russia but is today
Belarus, and lived in New York City after he had come to the United
States. Any information on the whereabouts of any of his descendants
would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I am searching for the descendants of Yitta Sigal and Jacob Schwartz, who
lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the first half of the twentieth
century. Yitta was born in Romania. Yitta and Jacob had four or five
children, including (1) Sarah, who, I believe, stayed home and cared for
her mother and therefore never married; (2) Mary, whose married name was
something like Shofman and who lived in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, Florida,
with her husband and adopted children (I believe there were two--one boy
and one girl); (3) maybe a Harry; (4) perhaps an Ethel; and (5) maybe
another one. Any information on the whereabouts of any of the descendants
of Yitta and Jacob would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

I'm searching for the descendants of my great-great-great-uncle, Jack
Harris, who lived in New York City (probably either Manhattan or Brooklyn)
in the first half of the twentieth century. He was sometimes known as
"Kentucky Jack" because he liked to fight and there was, apparently, a
famous fighter at the time with that name. His nephews often called him
"Uncle Kentucky." Jack had a brother, Louis Harris, and two sisters,
Dinah Harris and Kate Atlas. Any information on the whereabouts of any of
Jack's descendants would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Re: Talner #general

Diane Jacobs <kingart@...>

A couple of suggestions:
Call Mt. Zion and find out if they have a new contact person
listed.

Check with American Jewish History Center on West l6th
St., in Manhattan and see if they have a file and/or incorporation
papers for this group.

Need more information concerning the Talner Benevolence Society which has
a section of plots at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Maspeth (Queens), NY
(where my grandparents are buried).
