Sounds like someone with a typical Jewish -Slavic, Eastern European accent
is trying to pronounce "ALICIA." Alicija is a very common polish womens

Asher Levy - boarder in NYC l910 US Census #belarus

Diane Jacobs <kingart@...>

Looking for an Asher Levy, a boarder in l910 with my
grandparents David and Libbi Rabinowitz Glazer or Glasser
from Kartuz Bereza or Bereza, Belarus. Asher Levy was
23 single and >from Russia living at 80-82 First Street, Manhattan.
Two other boarderss, Ben Josolofsky, age 19 and Minnie Josolofsky

age 20, I believe are family and not really boarders only.

I found a reference to an Asher Levy in the SSDI b. 6/3/1886,
d. 8/78, issued IL l951, resided in Palm Springs, CA. First this
Asher Levy is the same age as the boarder in l910 and secondly
we have Greenfield family >from Chicago, IL.

If anyone has any knowledge of Asher Levy that resemble this
information, please contact me.

Thank you.

Gomel #belarus

People interested in Gomel should check this website:
http://gomel.lk.net/cybergomel.html

It is a US site for people >from Gomel. There are many interesting facts and
pictures, including a picture of the former great synagogue (the same one
that is available as a jpeg view >from Avotaynu). Although the site is not
specifically Jewish, many of the people listed are Jewish, including many in
Israel. I found a name that is close enough to mine that we are doing some
further checking.
