My 2nd gr grandfather was Marcus Stolowski of Raczki (or around there)
Polish Russia. Marcus is a Yiddish name often used for the Hebrew name
Mordechai. Rejestrarz is Registry; Kawalerji is cavalry; I'm not sure of
Ziemianskiej-Ziemianstwo is landed gentry; so I make that phrase that it is
an army registry. Plock Gubernia is a large area around the city of Plock
which formed the uppermost unit of government in Imperial Russia.

Swietoslawski could be someone who came >from the city of Swietoslaw.

Looking for maiden name of relative by using the Internet #general

Hi all:
I am looking for the maiden name of a relative and would like to know if
there is a way I could do it by using the Internet. I have some
options, but before I try those I would like to see if I can track her
down through the web.

She is in her late 50's, Her parents are not living, she was married
some where in NYC and is currently living in the suburbs. I was told I
could not get a copy of her marriage cert.

I called her high school, but it has been converted to charter schools
and no one had any idea if there were any alumni records. If she went
to college, I don't know which one.

Translation of Yiddish words on the label of a Yahrzeit candle #general

Hi:
I am using a small Yahrzeit candle that I recently purchased at a local
supermarket and I noticed some Yiddish words on it. Perhaps someone has
the same candle and could translate it. (Don't have a scanner so I
can't post it.)

It is made by the Star Candle Co. in Brooklyn, NY.

Several months ago, I posted a Yiddish inscription >from an unidentified
family photo on View Mate. Some kind people provided me with the following
translation: To my beloved cousin Yisroel Rappaport >from Yosef Zukerman.
Yisroel Rappaport was my great grandfather, but the family knows nothing
about his cousin, Yosef, or the Zukerman family connection. The photo was
taken between 1901 (date of Yisroel's immigration >from Ukraine) and 1908
(date of his death in Boston, Massachusetts). It was taken at Hurwitz
Studios at either their 274 Grand Street or 278 E. Houston Street, New York
location.

Please contact me if you have any information about the Zukerman family.

Dear Jewishgen friends,
I would like to know if there is any hope to find something on the Jewish
population of Dessau (Prussia , 18th century) in a LDS Center.I am trying
to find datas on Moses Mendelssohn's family and particularly on Saul
(brother of Moses): searching in books and writing to many people, I could
not find any date of birth for Saul: I wonder how Moses'birthdate is known
and why Saul's birthdate is not ??? They were both, with their sister
Jente, children of Mendel Heymann and Sara Bela Rahel Wahl ...according to
many books!

Sometimes you could also find the place and date of birth.
Last century the maiden names could be absent or present.
It is the same nowadays.

In fact, the price of the inscriptions depend on the number
of letters to be engraved.
As manuel work is much more expensive to-day,
there is a tendance to save money on this.
But you can still find some inscriptions as you like them.
