Virus Alert #belarus

theentins <theentins@...>

Dear Friends,

This message is being sent to you because of a new virus that attaches
to your e-mail. My computer was infected and I believe that I have
recently sent messages to you.

You should run an UP TO DATE virus scan program. If you do not have one,
go to www.free-av.com/index.html. This is a free program you can download.
It discovered and fixed the virus called "worm/BadTrans52". I have no
financial interest in this free program.

The virus says things such as:
open me
take a look to the attachment
s3msong.mp3.pif
readme.text1.pif
love ???
fat ???
you ???

The virus attaches to all your e-mail addresses and sends them messages at
random usually saying "take a look at the attachment".

In What City is Grand Street? #general

Carole Feinberg <feincgs@...>

Dear Fellow Genners,

from the Ellis Island Data Base I learned a probable relative, Hule
KATZ*, arrived 23 Mar 1905, to her sister, Ester HAAS, living on Grand
Street. The confusion is due to both "New York" and "Jersi City"
appearing in the address column next to Grand St.

Does any Genner know if there was a Grand St. in Jersey City, NJ in the
early 1900s? I realize that New York's Grand Street was located on the
Lower East Side and may still exist, today.

* I will post another message regarding my experiences with KATZ in the
EIDB. Only 10,281 KATZes have been recorded, so far, in the EIDB!

Many thanks in anticipation of some responses. Please reply privately.

Marty asks about Patronymic

My question is: How do JRI-Poland records on the JewishGen site
deal with records without surnames? Are they not included?
If they are included, how are they searchable, since surname is the only
search option I see? Does one search by the patrynomic?
Many time people are able to derive the surname based on their knowledge of
the families of the town. I guess it comes >from looking at thousands of
names in the indices and records. In that case, you will see the surname
on the database but surrounded by parentheses or brackets.

JRI-Poland also has a whole section on Patronymics. I welcome Marty and
all our friends out there to help us add to the page.
