How does one find one's own MARKS family - Manchester, England, Russia #general

rokoco1@...

Dear Genners:

After checking the EIDB for MARKS, even though I know my Marks arrived in
Boston, I have begun to realize how immense the challenge is to zero in on
mine. There are dozen and dozens of Marks arriving >from Manchester. And
that only covers the Marks arriving in NY. I have looked at every original
manifest I could get to open, trying to find anyone going to Chicago or
anywhere close, to no avail.

My Israel MARKS family, originated somewhere in Russia, spent many years
in Manchester, raising a family. The first wife died after 2 children,
Barney & Morris. The 2nd wife Yetta (Esther), gave birth to Julius, Mary,
Flora (Florence, Joe & Minnie, before coming to America in 1904.

Israel arrived here in 1902. He was a cobbler by trade. He settled in
Chicago, IL and opened his own cobbler shop on Maxwell Street. The rest of
the family followed in 1904. Is there a list in Manchester of Tradesmen?

I welcome any and all suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

Re: Grandfather Isaac - but Tzodok on gravestone #general

Udi Cain

My husband's great grandfather was Isaac Peters (originally Peterofski or
Pieterofski) but on his headstone his Hebrew name is given as Tzodok.

Personally, I have never heard of this Hebrew name. Can anyone who is
expertise, please enlighten me.
The first time it is being shown in the bible, in Shmuel B' chapter 8 /17:
"And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the
priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;"

Best regards.
Udi Cain.

No charge at all.
I have had my file set up since the opening of the EIDB.
The only problem is staying on long enough to access it!

EIDB Printing #belarus

Andrew N Schwartz <anschwartz@...>

To print >from the Ellis Island web site, I have found it faster to hit the
"Print Screen" button on my keyboard and then Edit, Paste (Ctrl-V) the
image into my word processor. It seems that if you click the "Print" button
in your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) all of the data on the
screen must be re-loaded, and this can take some time.

Besides, if you save the image in your word processor, you can print it on
paper later, save it for later viewing, or send it to someone else.

But the image stored on disk can consume valuable disk space, so be aware
of that.

Zvi Schwartz & Leah Fanaberia of Beunos Aires #belarus

hymiereich

In the DROHITCHIN Yizkor Book section of Jewishgen I found the following:

"Zvi Schwartz was born in Drohitchin in 1885......."

"At that time, Zvi met his future wife, Leah Fanaberia of Brisk, a fiery
socialist........"

"In 1937 Zvi and Leah arrived in Argentina to visit a brother, and decided
to remain there. The Schwartzes quickly became popular in Argentina, and
their house served as a meeting place for writers, leaders and culture
activists."

Does anyone know if they had a family and if yes, how to contact any of
their descendents?

My great great grandfather was Shlomo Gershon Fanaberia >from the Brisk area
and since the Fanaberia name seems to be quite uncommon I am sure their that
Leah Fanaberia was somehow related.

Dear Fellow Belarus S.I.G. members;
Thanks to my offer to answer a couple of Jewish genealogy question(s)
for no money but for only a Gift of stamps of USA/Foreign or old picture
postcards, I have helped many. Only wish I had did it a year ago where many
questions could have been helped by me that go unaswered as generous
answerers do not have the time to do. Thanks, HERBERT SCHULMAN, Professional
Jewish Genealogist, P.O.Box 2050, Cullowhee, N.C. 28723. USA
