Jewish Gen List Members,

I am trying to research for a friend of mine to help him contact
relatives. His great grandparents, Louis and Annie (Anna) RUBINSTEIN,
arrived in separate ships in 1904. Louis arrived first on the Moltke on
June 26, 1904. His wife and children followed October 15, 1904 on "The
City of New York". Louis came to California after his wife died and he
passed away in Napa on September 10, 1949.

My friend is a descendant >from their son Morris and his wife Beatrice.
Morris was a doctor in the military and also died in 1949. Any Help on
this family would be appreciated. These line are >from Ships manifests on

Hi,

I am relatively new to genealogy. I have found my great--grandparents
names on my dad's side. My mothers side I knew my great-grandparents and
have not got any further. Wherever I look they are not there. I am
beginning to think they were illegal aliens (only kidding).

My maternal grandmother was born in Odessa, Russia. Her name was Fannie
SCHAFFER. Her mother's name was Annie FISHMAN Schaffer and her Dad's name
was David Schaffer (Tevya). I know they arrived in January 1900 but I do
not know where. They lived in Boston and Revere, MA.
My maternal Grandfather was Isaac Alexander MARCUS born in Boston 1896.
His father was >from Poland (Julius MARKUS) and his mother Rebecca BAKER
was >from Lithuania.

My paternal grandmother was >from Lithuania (Eva ALPERT) and grandfather
was Poland (Max WEINSTEIN). Eva's mother was Leah Tsvia SHAPIRO Alpert
LATZ (LOWN) and Max's father was Nathan Weinstein and mother was Marie
WITZTUM.

With all of this information, I can't seem to get any further than finding
out names. Where should I go >from here? Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Dear Genners.
Can anyone help me figure this out? My gf Ben (Benzion) SCHER was
naturalized on July 5, 1923 in Chicago. My gm Ella SCHER is listed as his
wife on his petition. Why would my gm then file a Petition for Naturalization
(of a Married Person, under Sec. 310(a) of the Nationality Act of 1940?
Why was this second petition required? She filed it in 1944 thirty-nine
years after she arrived in the US.

Hi Roy,

The name of the Undertaker firm on the certificate appears to be
something like "Natch Mid Co" or perhaps "Watch Nud Co". The part of
the name that is shown clearly is that the first word ends with
"atch". The address is also shown clearly as "2235 West Division
Street".

The individual who signed the certificate >from the Undertaker's firm
also had a name that ended in "atch", but the beginning of his name is
also hard to decipher.

Does anyone recognize the name of the Funeral Home or Undertaker from
this information? It doesn't look like any of the Chicago Funeral
Homes with which I am familiar. >>

Can anyone lead me to information on ships, schedules, etc? I found ship's

over in 1910 according to the 1920 census, but I cannot find him on the Ellis
Island search, even accounting for spelling errors. Trying to find random
people who came >from Bremen in 1910 and going thru manifests line by line, no
luck so far. My questions are:
- Was it standard for people >from Osiek Galicia to come to the US via Bremen,
or what other ports were common?
- How often did the ships depart? So far, I have come across 6 different
Bremen departures, and they were all different months. Is this just by chance,
or do I have only 6 more to go?!

Thank you.
