Solomon, Samuel and Milton LERNER, Brooklyn & Queens #general

Anita Springer <aspringer@...>

Does anyone know anything about a Solomon LERNER, b. about 1875, a Russian
immigrant who lived on Vernon Ave. in Brooklyn in 1910-1918 and on Boyd
Ave. in Queens in 1920? He had two wives, the first was Annie, with
children Mary/May, Sadie, and Samuel. Second wife in 1920 was Edith with
new children Milton and Anna. Sadie appears to have changed her name to
Lillian. I believe he may have come >from Kamenetz, Russia and be a close
relative to my husband's LERNER family. He was a carpet layer.

Thanks for any information
Anita Springer, Boston

KATZ: Isaac, Herbert, Arthur #general

was born about 1888 and came to the US around 1910. Married Nettie LERNER

I believe Arthur was killed in Europe in military service in WWII. Thanks.

Re: LADIN/BENNETT #general

SJHogarth <sjhogarth@...>

I am hoping someone out there knew the following individuals (my
cousins).

Philip BENNETT was born in N.Y. on 17 July 1917 and died in L.A. on 17
May 1993. If I recall correctly, my late mother had told me that he had
changed his surname to BENNETT. Information I located indicated that his
mother's maiden name was LADIN but this could have been his surname.

Jack LADIN was born in Russia on 08 Dec 1911 and died in L.A. on 19 Jan
1968. He did at one point in time (early 30's) live in Toronto, Ontario.

Knowing your father's name #general

IsraelP <zach4v6@...>

As Josie mentions, she was not aware of being the daughter of a Levite
while she was growing up, although she states that the home was observant.
(Levitical lineage passes through the male line). I too, had no idea that
my mgrandfather's line, GOCHMAN's >from Zvihil, were Levites.

This discussion reminds me of a case in our family, also in an
observant family, living in Melbourne.

The father's given name is David-Melech. The twenty-five year old
daughter saw that in my database and was very surprised because
she thought that when her mother called him that, it was as a
nickname. (King David)

It never occurred to this young woman that this was her father's proper
given name. I mean, she never needed this information herself.
(They probably go to a shul where the women can't hear so well...)
