Re: Is there a faster way to g othrough all the forum letters? #general

Jackie King <anglegerl@...>

I don't know anything about a program. However, I
find that if I just go through and read the subject
lines that it helps alot. That's why it is very
important to make them as specific as possible. For
example: If the subject line says "looking for
Wolfson" I know that I don't need to bother reading
that email because I don't have anyone with that
surname in my family. I find that this saves me alot
of time. Often, I can evern go through and I end up
deleting all of it, becuase none of it matters to me.

Hope that helps,
Jackie

Yes we do have a Caribbean Festival but it ends on Monday. People will
start leaving then. When I travel I always confirm my flight back. This
should be done as routine and not only because of Caribana.

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a program that can scan the forum letters for
specific words. I thought I had read a letter a while back about a women
explaining that she had this program and it saved a lot of time.

If there is such a program can someone tell me the name of it and where I
can purchase it.

Re: location of Bouchara 1941 #general

Carlos Glikson

Lisa Rosenfeld's missing relatives were last heard >from in Bouchara in 1941.
Previous replies indicated Lisa could try the spelling *Bukhara*, a
city/area in southern Uzbekistan and one of the historic centers of the Silk
Road.

If the 1945 letter Lisa has, or family tradition, mentions anything related
to carpets in or >from Bouchara in connection to the relatives' location ,
this could further suggest that Lisa's Bouchara was probably Bukhara.
Bukhara is the origin of world famous carpets. I am no expert but ask
myself about the Koln, Germany, relatives' "ch" pronunciation and the "kh"
sound in the Bukhara area.

Add to this the fact that there was evacuation to Central Asia republics at
the time, away >from the front . Influenced by my direct family coming West
before the war, in my pre-beginner stage I tended to think in terms of
survival by escape or evacuation to the West, and relatives who stayed were
they were. But now I was very happy to learn that relatives survived the war
from what is today´s Ukraine. They - and many others - were evacuated East
to Central Asia, and not West.

A Unesco site on history of central Asia civilization
http://www.unesco.org/culture/asia/html_eng/chapitre4216/chapitre7.htm
reminds us that carpets, runners, curtains and cushions essentially replaced
furniture for the peoples of the Near and Middle East. In the ninth and
tenth centuries, Bukhara already was one of the main centres of cotton
production. Bukhara produced cotton fabrics, silk and semi-silk cloths.

So again, any mentions of carpets or ellaborate weaving products in
"Bouchara" in the letters or stories could help in making "Bukhara" in
Uzbekistan a big possibility.

Hope this helps,
