Re: FUHRER arrivals in 1905 and 1913 #hungary

NORMAN FUHRER

Stated in all his documents, my Uncle, Josef/Yosef FUHRER arrived in NY on
July 11, 1905 aboard the Vaderland >from Antwerp. Complete search of the
manifest shows a Jozaf GRINVOLD, a shoe maker >from Ungvar, Hungary.
Everything fits with the exception of the Surname. He shows a relative E.
NEIDERMAN, living in NYC as a brother-in-law. No traces of Jozaf GRINVOLD,
after his arrival. My father, Armin Aaron FUHRER, arrived in NY in
December 1913. He lists as an uncle, Emil NEIDERMAN. Emil NEIDERMAN >from
Ungvar, arrived in NYC in 1905 and is listed in the 1920 and 1930 Census
with his wife Sadie. Could Jozaf GRINVOLD be our Uncle Josef?? Have not
found a connection, yet, to the NEIDERMAN's >from Ungvar. Any suggestions?

Re: "Declaration of Means" - can one collect from these assets? #germany

Barbara Algaze

Fritz Neubauer explained the "Declaration of Means" as "...the list of all
their assets German Jews had to fill in before they were deported or were
allowed to emigrate."

I have copies of these lists for my Paternal Grandmother and her sister who
were taken together, >from Berlin to Riga on Transport # 10 on January 25,
1942. Included amongst their belongings are bank account numbers for
assets held at Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank.

Does anyone know if it is possible, at this late date, for descendants of
these women to collect against these bank accounts?
And if so, how would it be done?

With many thanks for any information regarding this issue.

ZYMAN family of Mariampol (Marjampol), Lithuania #general

Terry Newman

My great-great grandfather, Jochiel Szlomo ZYMAN married Dobra TARPUNKEN (or
TARPUCKEN) in Mariampol, Lithuania, in 1840. Both Jochiel and Dobra had
other siblings also born in Mariampol.

Recent issues of the "Landsmen" journal have published extracted 19th
century Jewish Mariampol births, marriages and deaths, mostly not filmed by
the Mormons, >from the Vilnius State Archives. Some records are also in the
various databases, such as JRI-Poland

The records show Jochiel's father as being Hirsz, son of Szlomo, and mother
as being Chana Malka, daughter of Jochiel. Dobra's father is shown, in the
records, as being Icko, son of Dawid, and mother, as being Ryffa, daughter
of Tobiasz.

from "Landsmen" (July 2011) the extracted 1823 birth record of Mowsza Aron
ZYMAN, one of Jochiel's younger brothers, the father, Hirsz, was described
as a "brass worker". The family residence was 164 Koscielney St, Mariampol.
I think Hirsz died in Mariampol in the 1840's, but do not have any
confirmation as yet.

Jochiel and Dobra ZYMAN left Mariampol during the 1850's, becoming Simon and
Deborah SOLOMON. After some years in London, they arrived with children in
Australia by the early 1860's. Both died in Sydney, Australia: Deborah in
1879 and Simon in 1900.

I am wondering what happened to the descendants of Jochiel and Dobra's
siblings.

Levi/Leib/Leibish name confusion #poland

Igor Schein <igorschein@...>

I am well aware of Arye <=> Yehuda <=> Leib name equivalence. I just
read in The Polish Given Names Database about Levi <=> Leib
equivalence. So now my question is, under what circumstances can a
person named Levi (e.g. Levi-Itzhak) have a son named Leib-Ber (equiv
to Arye-Dov)? In other words, are these names considered truly
distinct, allowing father and son to carry them concurrently, even
though they potentially map to the same Yiddish name Leib?

I am discovering a number of Poland-born people in my tree named
Leibish. I am trying to understand whether Leibish is a diminutive of
Leib all the time, or it can be a diminutive of Levi, potentially
allowing the situation described in the first paragraph.

Thanks

Igor Schein
