Re: Female Given Name-Rudel/Rudla/Ruchla #general

Avrohom Krauss <krauss@...>

It makes lots of sense. The names "Rudel" and "Rudla" are two varients
(diminutives) of the Yiddish name "Ruddeh." "Ruchla" is a diminutive for the
Hebrew "Rachel". Although these Yiddish names are not technically related to
the Hebrew, Rachel, they may have been used together as a double name, ie
Rachel- Rudel/Rudla. Alternately, one name (eg Rachel) may have been her
offical name but she may have been called the other (eg Rudel/Rudla). Of
course there is a possibility that she had only one name, Rachel or
Rudel/Rudla- and the other was transcribed in error.

In different documents which I see I get different
given names of my ggrandmother. They are
Rudel/Rudla/Ruchla. Does it make sense???
Thanks

Re: Online Social Security Death Index #general

Avrohom Krauss <krauss@...>

My grandfather, who died in 1944, is not found in the SSDI. Fortunate for
me, he did, however, leave behind his Social Security Card, and so, I had
his Social Security number.Armed with his number and dates of birth and
death, I sent away for his SS-5 application form. In response, Soc. Sec
required me to furnish them with proof of death. After doing so, I received
the desired record. My question is, why is his name still absent >from the
SSDI years after my reporting (and supplying proof of his death) to SSA?

ROTTENBERG family #general

Michael Fischer <miketran@...>

I am looking for my ROTTENBERG family. My great aunt Sophie
Steinberg was married to Abraham Rottenberg. On the 1920 census,
they lived in New York with a daughter Freda and a boarder Freda
Weitzman. I think that Ms Weitzman name was really Beatrice, who I
know to be a cousin of Sophie. In the same building as Abe and
Sophie, lived another Rottenberg family who I think was a brother
of Abe. The names were Peter, Sylvia and their children Simon
and Miriam. On the 1930 census, it show Peter and his family
sharing an apartment with Abe Rottenberg and his daughter Freda.,
I have no idea where Sophie or Freda were. The address they lived at
was Park East.

Does anyone have any idea where ulitsa Tadzik might be? (aka Tadzik St.)

It's an address recalled >from childhood without any geographical location
.
One possibility is Grodno, but that's not certain.

Yes, yes, this is a long shot, but who knows what strange things Internet

reveals?

Many thanks.

Romanian City Name #romania

David Taub <stuffandstuffandstuffus@...>

I was just told that my grandmother was born in a Romanian city that
sounds like "Spinke" ... I got this spelling >from an Israeli relative
who isn't very good with English, and wasn't sure on the exact name.
Does anyone have any ideas what city this could be? It is supposed to
be in the Transylvania region.

Thanks,

David Taub

"drafted into recruits instead of this family" #general

ilyaz <ilyaz@...>

Studying some Revision Lists, I found an entry saying "O.B.N.(name not
related to the name in the Revision List) was caught without a passport and
was drafted into recruits instead of this family".
I've heard about this practice, but am curious - why this particular person
was drafted instead of this particular family? Was there bribe involved?
Some other arrangements?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: Rudel/Rudla/Ruchla #general

Gary Mokotoff- <mokotoff@...>

Jaacob Rosen asks:
In different documents which I see I get different given names of my
ggrandmother. They are Rudel/Rudla/Ruchla. Does it make sense???

Possible answer:
While there is a Jewish feminine name Rodl, it is more likely that Rudel is
a misinterpretation of the handwriting of Ruchel where the "ch" looks like a
"d". Similarly, Rudla is really Ruchla.

unknown gap of about 20 generations #general

Ury Link

Dear Genners,
I read today the letter of Daniel with the title :

>>Subject: LoebTree - Ashkenazi/Sephardi Family tree with 22,000+ names
going back to biblical times >>>

I am >from nature a sceptic man when it go to early generation before 1600
because I know how difficult it is to find material about persons and
special to find documents. I get curious and look into his website
Daniel have do a great work on his website with all the link's to other
websites etc.....

But when I see in his genealogy's this verse: " unknown gap of about 20
generations" then I get nervous.
In Genealogy you must to have a continuous line otherwise it is only a nice
story or a legend but not a genealogy.
Sorry for my hard words'
Best regards
