More on Litvak programs at the Jerusalem2004 Conference #lithuania

First, please let me apologize for a slip of the key when I
wrote yesterday:

<< Litvaks will have a full and rich day of networking and
information on Thursday, July 9 at the Jerusalem2004 IAJGS
conference. >>

There is no such day as Thursday, July 9. The bulk of the
Litvak events are on Thursday, July 8. But not all...

Prof. Dov Levin alerted me that his presentation Wednesday, July 7
on "Jewish Surnames in the Baltic Countries" will include "a big part of
information on our Litvaks." He will be glad to answer questions about
his lecture. Prof. Levin's lecture will be in Hebrew, with a simultaneous
translation into English. It is part of the track on onomastics, and is
therefore scheduled separately >from the presentations on Baltic research.

Sephardic research focus groups #general

Bernard Kouchel <koosh@...>

In private e:mail I was asked this question about the forthcoming SefardSIG
meeting at the Jerusalem Conference...
How can we pull a working group together that will get connected and set
some goals?
I've decided to post my thoughts publicly, so this issue can be discussed
openly:

All Seph researchers cannot have a common focus. It is only by working
together and sharing resources with others with a common focus can a SIG be
successful. The three basic steps as I see it--

1) Form close-knit community of interest SIGs i.e. KahalSpain,
KahalCarib, KahalTurkey, KahalNAfrica, KahalWEur etc.etc.

2) Share information on sources of records, vital, synagogue, community
organizations, etc.

3) Together, solicit funds to hire researcher(s), to obtain records to be
shared by all.

The key is creation of close-knit volunteer groups with very specific focus,
a band of brothers (& sisters)!

If you are a researcher of Sephardic genealogies, we'd like to view
your opinion on the Sefard Form. Join in the discussion here:.
