Jerusalem Conference Thanks #general

Arthur Meyers <marciarthur@...>

Dear Israel Genealogical Society Friends,

We attended the 24th Annual Conference in Jerusalem and received much
information >from the various lectures we attended.

Unfortunately, on Thursday, July 8, we both became ill and were taken to
Hadassah Hospital for treatment. Arthur was in the hospital for the day and
Marcia was in for four days.

We want to thank the Israel Genealogical Society for their concern and for
the visit and calls >from members Miriam Haringman-Goitein and Mathilde
Tagger. In addition to the excellent medical care of the hospital staff,
their reaching out meant much to our full recovery.

We can happily report that "We Went to Hadassah Hospital and Did Not
See the Chagall Windows At First!" But we did eventually see the
Windows and much more in beautiful and inspiring Israel.

Thank you for a wonderfully well-planned conference and making all the
participants feel at home.

With love and Shalom, Marcia Indianer Meyers and Arthur Meyers

1873 Galician / Polish Birth Record Translation needed VM 4415 #general

Adelle Gloger

Dear Genners,

I have posted to View Mate a copy of my grmo's birth record. ( my first
attempt at scanning anything) She was born in Tarnopol in 1873. Her
parents, Josef Lorber and Rivke Kasten, did not have a civil "legal"
marriage until 1891. At that time my grmo, Sara Golda Lorber, had her
birth registered. My grandmother married in 1892.

I have given this explanation because of the dates that appear on the
document. The document can be seen on ViewMate4415.

Thank you all for your wonderful help in the past.

Galveston as port of entry to USA #general

Ida & Joseph Schwarcz <idayosef@...>

There are two booklets in Yiddish which should be of interest to people
whose ancestors came to the US via Galveston, Texas. Volume two,
" Emigrantn lebn in Galveston," (Kiev: Jewish Emigration Society, 1912)
contains lists of emigrants, hometowns, where they settled in US,
occupations, and weekly wages. It is available at Hebrew Union College
Library, Cincinnati, Ohio. The first volume is " Vos hot unz gegebn di
Galvestaner emigratsye?" (Warsaw, 1910) It is mentioned in volume two,
but I have been unable to track it down.
Sincerely,
Ida Selavan Schwarcz

Greczanik & Feldman from Ukraine #general

amir kolner <amirkol@...>

Hello,
I'm looking for information about my grandmother's family. She was born in
Bereznica - Ukraine.
Her name was Tsvia (Tsila) GRECZANIK, the daughter of Abraham and
Yocheved and the grandaughter of Arye & Hasya GRECZANIK >from her
father side and Yitzhak & Tsvia FELDMAN >from her mother side. Both her
mother and her father were married before and each came with his
children. Yochved, her mother, was married to Sanya SHNEIDER and
they had 2 children, Moshe & Max. Abraham, her father, was married to
Tzipora and they had 5 children. My grandmother used to work as a
teacher in a near by town called, Remchich (I'm not sure about the
spelling). The FELDMAN family had relatives in another near by towns
called Rachwalowka and Chartorysk. (Although it is possible that the
surname of the family lived in Chartorysk was FERD).
I do know that Yochved, the mother of my grandmotherm had couple of
brothers who moved to America in the beginning of the 20th century.
They're names are: Shmuel, Yosef and Mordechay FELDMAN and they
are apparently >from Rachwalowka.
I hope someone will see this e-mail and would be kind enough to let me
know some details,
Thank you very much for you time and trouble,
