SCHULWOLF surname #general

Mila Begun <mmbegun@...>

What might be the origins or meaning (if any) of the surname Schulwolf?

The family branch with the name claims ancestry in Austria, or somewhere
in the former Austro-Hungarian empire, but exactly which part is unknown.

Thanks in advance. Mila Begun in New York.

Schlachtensee DP Camp #general

Have just received information regarding my aunt who was at the above mentioned
DP Camp in 1947 before arriving in the US. Would anyone know if there is an
organization, or agency, that I can contact that might have any records of the
individuals in this camp. It is identified as: UNRRA Camp 1027 - Berlin, Germany.
I take this to a United Nations facility. Any help in locating these records
would be greatly appreciated.

Earlier this week, I learned of the existence of a Pikholz descendant, born 1912
in Czernovitz and lived in Radauti, Bukovina.

Today I learned that she submitted a Page of Testimony in 1999 in her father's
memory. So she may be alive or may have living descendants. The 1999 Page
has an address in Mexico but no phone number.

I speak no Spanish.

Is there someone who would be willing to check this out for me?
This late in the day, educated Mexicans speak English too. That is even more
true for Jews in Mexico. I daresay that someone who filed pages of
testimony, even if she did so in Spanish, would have English. If nobody
volunteers to help you, you might try calling her yourself.

Translation of UK Marriage Authorisation #general

PETER HILLS <pmhills@...>

I would be very grateful for some assistance with translating the Hebrew entries
on the short London Marriage Authorisation for my grandparents included at
ViewMate 4733 ie go to

http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=4733

When I submitted the certificate I originally asked for certain sections
only but it would be incredibly helpful for all the Hebrew to be
translated.. Only a few lines but vital for my research!

Please be kind enough to reply direct to me.

In return I would be happy to try and help with any research enquiries which
can only be done >from London.

Thank you.

Rabbiners is not a plural #germany

Yekkey@...

<< Also, can someone explain why the prefix for Rabbi is given as a plural? >>

from my limited knowledge of German grammar, I think this is the answer:
"Des" is the definite article for the genitive case and all adjectives after it
should end in "s," so Rabbiners is not plural but genitive.

Is there anybody on this list who is better at 17th century German grammar
than I?
