ViewMate Translation: Polish & Yiddish #general

Dear Genners, I am hoping to find someone to translate two things for me.

One is the back of a photo of relatives in Israel. There is one word in
particular that is illegible because it appears to be crossed out. Any
assistance in deciphering this word (and the others would be most appreciated.

http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate file - VM5701

The other translation is a document ordered >from the Jewish Records Index
from Poland. I thought it was in Polish, but now have been told it's in "old"
Russian. Anyone able to translate?

JGS North Jersey meeting March 27 #general

Paul & Myrna Lewis <pmlewis6391@...>

Editing Photographs & Other Documents

Place: YM-YWHA of North Jersey
Date: Sunday March 27, 2005
Time: 2:00 PM

Many genealogists have gathered photographs and documents to go along with
our computerized family history records. It's a two-step process: first, we
have to put the actual "hard-copy" material into computer-readable form, and
then we often have to do some work on it before we include it in our
database. The first stage - scanning the photo or document into a computer
file - was discussed at an earlier meeting of our group. Now we're ready to
tackle the second part.

Bob Kraus, a long-time member of JGSNJ, will demonstrate some of the
photo-editing techniques available with fairly inexpensive computer
software. A key element of his presentation will be the assurance that
patience rather than extensive computer skill is the primary requirement to
producing these most worthwhile additions to your genealogy records.

The JGS meetings are held at the YM-YWHA of North Jersey, 1 Pike Drive,
Wayne, NJ. The Charles & Bessie Goldman Library will be open at 1:30 P.M.
to give those interested a chance to use our extensive resource center and
socialize. The program will begin at 2:00 P.M. There is no charge for the
program. All are welcome.

For information, or directions, contact:
Susan 732-752-3384, Judy 973-226-7049 or Paul 845-357-5567

Kalladey, Budweiser Kreis, Bohemia and Merging Family Trees #austria-czech

Celia Male <celiamale@...>

I first met Ruth Coman and Peter Barber [both SIG
members >from London] when I organised a
Bohemia-Moravia get-together on the occasion of Susan
Boyer's [California] visit to London in Sept. 2004.
Little did I know, that 6 months later our trees would
merge.

Ruth rang me yesterday and she asked about a grave in
Wahringer Friedhof, Vienna of Franzisca [nee LOEWY]
SCHUSSLER [umlaut on the U]:

Schussler Franziska, age 67, 18.08.1872, Gp 7 Grave
466

who was possibly her gt-gt grandmother.

We confirmed today that Franziska was indeed from
Kalladey and was the right person. She was described
as an "Oekonomiebesitzers witwe" [Estate-owner's
widow]. Her deceased husband was Joachim Tobias
SCHUESSLER.

My immediate reaction was that I also have
SCHUESSLER on my tree and then we realised we were
talking about the same family and Ruth had been
corresponding with my SCHUESSLER third-cousin in
Australia.

Peter Barber's tree is linked to Ruth's tree through
KAFKA and SALUS.

SALUS is linked to SCHUESSLER - Ruth's tree.

SCHUESSLER is linked to BACHRACH and
BACHRACH is linked to BIACH [Celia's tree - my great-
grandmother being Emma nee BIACH. Her sister Charlotte
married Joseph BACHRACH and Joseph granddaughter
married into the same SCHUESSLER family discussed
above]. QED

Peter also has BACHRACHs on his tree from
Leipnik in northern Moravia. As yet, we do not know if
the two BACHRACH lines are related

Moreover, Franziska's parents, namely the LOEWYs
from Kalladey, may be the same as the Kalladey
LOEWYS on Randy Schoenberg's and Jane Reber's
[both >from California] trees.

Kalladey, [Kolodeje nad Luznici] in the Budweiser
Kreis, Southern Bohemia, had 69 Jewish families living
in the village in 1793; all 69 families were
Schutzjuden and four families were named "Lovi".

It is cause for a celebration all around; were there
still a Jewish community in Kalladey, I am sure there
would be dancing in the streets tonight.

As SIG members Uri Meretz and Ray Minkus have both
written to me [and I have their permission to quote]
"bim bam bom" was also used in Hebrew songs - so
perhaps that is what they might be singing too.

MB==The default for sending messages via AOL 9+ is HTML.
But in Version 9 you can switch to "plain text" easily.
With your cursor located anywhere inside the Email message
that you are writing, right click (click the right mouse button).

At the bottom of the subsequently displayed menu, you'll see
an item "Compose as Plain Text."

Click on this each time you send a message to any Jewishgen list.

The change applies only to the one message you're sending.
Your system goes back into the HTML default mode after you have sent it.

That solves the problem with plain text for Jewishgen lists
EXCEPT for an occasional problem for which I don't know the solution.

Sometimes, you may be quoting text pasted into your Email >from a web page or
from some other HTML format source].
This may cause your message to revert to HTML format, without your noticing
the change >from Plain Text to HTML.

MB== AOL Versions 9a and 9 security are now available to be used with
Microsoft 98 and later. They can be downloaded for free, ordered free
as a CD-rom, or picked up at no charge at a post office and many stores.

"Ritchie Boys" (movie) tells of German Jewish translators in US Army - WW2 #germany

Gunther Steinberg <beagun27@...>

Recently, a movie called "Ritchie Boys" has been playing around the US.
Made by a German Film company, it tells the story of German refugees who
were in the US Army and trained at Camp Ritchie MD to become Interrogators
of Prisoners of War [IPW]in the European theater. I was one of them: 7th AD,
CCR. After seeing the movie I wondered how many IPW team members are still
around. They will all be 80 or older. Please write to me privately !
