Hungarian researchers query - FREIMAN FREEMAN FRIEDMAN #hungary

j <jerbdac.mail@...>

Hi everyone,
I would like some advice on specific researchers in Hungary. My family is >from Miskolc, and I am looking for all types of Miskolc vital records. ?

My ggfather Samuel (Avraham Shmuel) FREEMAN was born in Miskolc in 1859 to Yeshayahu (Harold) FREIMAN or FRIEDMAN. Samuel left Hungary in 1879 and went to the US, (NY, Indiana, Rhode Island and ultimately Newark NJ). He had several brothers (no information), a sister Rose (there is a family connection to Fanny Brice here somehow), and nother sister married REICH (and had children Lolly, Marion, and Rose). Samuel married Fanny Hahn, daughter of Philip Hahn, also of Miskolc, Hungary. ?

Although the family name in the US became FREEMAN, we were told it had been FREIMAN in Hungary. However, recently a naturalization record came to light that may have been FREDMAN, and a possible ship manifest listing FRIEDMAN (can't be sure it is him).

I appreciate any wisdom and experience that the list members can share = with me. All the best,

name for orphan's father commonly Avaraham Iitzhak #general

robert roudman <rcroudman@...>

My grandfather was an orphan. On his grave stone his "father" is named
Avaraham Itzhak, this name was later given to my brother as his Hebrew name.
I have since been told that the "father's" name was probably unknown, and
that when the father's name is unknown "Avaraham Itzhak" is commonly given
in the absence of the actual unknown name. Does this seem correct?? The
family was >from Bessarabia (Moldava)circa 1860.
Thank you,

RITZEN (REISEN?) of Kryzhopol, Ukraine and Minneapolis #general

Miriam and Joe Bernhardt <miriam_b@...>

Shalom,
I would like to get more info about the family of my mother, Sarah
RITZEN EZEKIEL. Her father Isaac Ritzen (Isek REISEN) came in at Galveston
in 1913. My mother, her mother, Pearl Ritzen, and her brother David Ritzen
came on the last boat out of Hamburg before the start of WWI. (Actually my
mother told us that they had to close the shades on the windows of the
train, so that they wouldn't see the Gernan troops being mobilized.) I
haven't been able to locate their port of arrival.
Anyway, they ended up in Minneapolis.
I have indeed searched a bunch of files.
Thanks for any help

TUMIM, Fredda VOLASKI, and Harry BRILL #general

Miriam and Joe Bernhardt <miriam_b@...>

These names are all connected to my gm, Rachel BRILL EZEKIEL. Harry BRILL
and Fredda VOLASKI were wed, and were the parents of Mordecai Joseph BRILL
my ggf.

Eli TUMIM's daughter, Rebecca, was the wife of M.J.BRILL and therefore my
gm's mother.

Any knowledge of any of these families would be useful to me and to several
people who have written asking questions about them.

Thanks for any info.

I have been using it since it first appeared. Be aware that it is *not*
accurate! There are a lot of mistakes and wrong information. I've
checked over 20 people. Not one had accurate information! Even my own
info was wrong. So, while it's a tool, don't depend on it for your
information. Check out what you find with other sources.

I have checked the web site and find it very interesting.
The first 2 maps show Napolean's Army path to Moscow in 1812 and the Russian
Army following him back.
The second page shows nationality makeup of cities in Belarus Territory in
1897 >from Riga to Gomel. Included populations are Belarus, Russian,
Ukranian, Polish, Latvian, etc.
One of the other maps of Belarus further down the list appears to show
provinces in 1770.

Oceanview Cemetery in NY ??? #general

Joan Engel <jengel@...>

Samuel POMERANTZ, my gg uncle, was born in Kamenets-Litovsk in 1875 and died
on the Lower East side (Grand Street) in NYC in 1913. His death certificate
seems to indicate he was buried in Oceanview Cemetery (section R) - but it
is hard to read. I have located an address for an Oceanview Cemetery in
Staten Island but was surprised to find his family buried him on Staten
Island.

Could I have the name of the cemetery wrong? --- Is there another cemetery
with a similar name somewhere else? --- Would they have taken the body over
on a ferry? --- Is anyone familiar with this cemetery or with any burial
societies that buried people there? (The death certificate indicates the
undertaker was A. Livingston at 248 Grand Street.)

I have sent the Oceanview Cemetery in Staten Island a letter requesting
information but have not gotten any response. I am planning to visit the
cemetery but any information about it prior to my visit or any suggestions
for getting information >from them will be appreciated!
