Judy Salomon responded to Joe:

<Often is was when a man left to marry a woman in the new
destination, but
sometimes a family would relocate to places where they felt
there would be
better economic opportunities or for family considerations.>

In my day the woman moved to where the man had a job. I had
always thought it
strange that my grandfather moved to the town where his
bride-to-be lived.
Maybe it made more sense in those days to have the woman live
near family.
Is this a common occurrence?
I think even today you'll see examples of the man moving to where
the woman lives. Some girls still choose to be near their
parents and some parents are willing to arrange for a job or
assist in other ways to ensure that this happens.

Were there internment's camps in Lebanon and Syria for european Jews in

It is unclear whether you are asking >from the point of view of them being
enemy aliens or being Jews. For instance, in the UK, enemy aliens were
interned in the Isle of Man - and many of these were Jews.

France didn't fall to the Germans until mid-1940, when the Vichy Govt would
have come into effect. It would seem that the Allies invaded and
installed Free French governments when the Vichy governments in those
countries started assisting German forces.

I would have thought given that Lebanon and Syria were French colonies in
1940, this is something that you are most likely to find in French on a
French website or Government Archive.

holocaust era insurance claim question #general

Sara Wenger <sara_wenger@...>

I received a letter form Generali insurance company
stating that they located a life insurance policy
issued to my grandfather in 1928. The letter goes on
to say that because this policy does not appear in
their accounting records of 1936 or of subsequent
years, it must have left their portfolio (before the
beginning of the Holocaust Era as defined by the
International Commission). The policy therefore does
not qualify for any payment. The front page that they
sent me of the supposed policy seems to be of someone
else's policy.

Does anyone out there have any experience with this?
Is it worthwhile to appeal as they indicated I am
entitled to do? If so, on what grounds would I appeal
as I have no information.

I looking for information about a Mordechai (Max)

lived in the Valley area (North Hollywood, Valley
