There are plenty of archives, usually public ones, which are open free,
in full or in part, to the public. To take a few examples - the Commonwealth

Australia, The London Gazette. These are available on the Internet. Some of
these and others can be visited personally where sight of the archives is free.

Danish Jewish compatriots.

I am searching for a rabbi and his family >from Manchester, England (or some
say London) whose mother's maiden name was GAISINSKY / HAISINSKY and whose
maternal grandfather was Rabbi Yitzhak Avraham Gaisinsky >from Stavishche,

1920's (or possibly earlier) and although I am uncertain of his name there is

I would have to agree with Frank. I just came back >from Belarus and I had an
amazing experience visiting the shtetls my family came from. Just walking
the streets of the shtetls takes you to a different world and understand the
region, the way of life, the living conditions all takes you back a century
and helps you understand why your ancesters left. I highly recommend the
trip and will be sending out a description of my experiences after the
holidays. I would also suggest that you get in touch with Yuri Dorn, the
director of the Religious Communities of Belarus, based in Minsk, who can
help you with your trip. My amazing trip could not have been possible
without him. When I send out my full description, everyone will understand.

Would it be possible to clarify the following?

The quotes are >from either the JG or FTDNA websites:

"Y-DNA strictly checks the paternal line, with no influence of any
females along that line... A single test allows you to verify if 2
males are related".

"mtDNA: ...Note that the mtDNA strictly checks the maternal line,
with no influence of any males along that line."

Does this mean to say that:

(1) a male descendant of, say, a female cousin, will not be
detected at all using the Y chromosome test?

(2) a descendant of, say, a male cousin, will not be detected at all
if using the mitochondrial DNA test?
