Younger siblings marrying in-laws' siblings #general

David Edelman <pappapeach@...>

Dear Cousin Genners;
There has been discussions about cousin and sibling marriage. This is
a different questain, but with a family kind of marriage:
If you go back in history of, say, 100-150 years, we get the
impression that a lot of comunities were much smaller then they are
now. It is known that travel then was much slower, dangerous, and more
expensive then it is now.
Because of that combination, it has been mentioned that a young man
will travel about 50 miles, to the next village, to "find" his wife.
This is the questain:
Lets say, about two years after this first young mans goes to the
neighbore village where he "found" his wife, his younger brother goes
to the same village to also "get" a wife. This second wife happens to
be the sister of the first wife. This would then make the two
brothers, brother-in-laws: the two sisters, sister-in-laws.
Similarly, although slightly different, if the younger brother is not
the brother of the first husband, but the younger brother of the first
wife, and goes to the first village. You end up with the same result
in the end.
It would seem this should have been common, but I have never seen it.
I have only seen it once, in present San Francisco, where two sisters
are married to two brothers.
Was this common, not aloud, or what?

HIRSCH Heppenheim>London>East Woodhay, Hampshire & SELIGMAN Germany?>Tulse Hill, South London #general

Alice Josephs

I am looking for the HIRSCH family of Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse,
Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. Baruch HIRSCH and his three sons Leopold, Adolph
and Heinrich (Henry) left Heppenheim in the 1880s and founded L HIRSCH & Co
of Warnford Court, Throgmorton Street in the City of London and made their
money >from South African goldmines and English coalmines.

I am especially interested in finding descendants of Leopold, Adolph and
Henry.

Leopold HIRSCH (1857 Heppenheim -1903 Westminster, London) married Matilda
Frances SELIGMAN (1871 Tulse Hill, South London-Unknown)

In 1901 they were living at 10 Kensington Palace Gardens, Kensington and the
children were:

Margaret abt 1892 London -
Ruth abt 1893 London -
John Henry 1895 London - 1983 East Woodhay, Hampshire
married Joan UNKNOWN (1913-2002 East Woodhay, Hampshire)
Richard abt 1899 London -

Adolph HIRSCH (1862 Heppenheim - Unknown) married Georgette SELIGMAN (abt
1879-Unknown)

In 1901 they were living in 10 Upper Brook Street, St George's, Hanover
Square, London and had one child:

Gladys abt 1900 London St James -

In 1901 Heinrich (Henry) Baruch HIRSCH was unmarried. He was born in 1872
and living at 110 Mount Street in St Georges, Hanover Square, London

The two wives of Leopold and Adolph, Matilda and Georgette, may have been
sisters. Georgette had a brother Armand Seligman.

On the net I have also found a Lindsay HIRSCH of L Hirsch & Co who had a
correspondence with Winston Churchill in 1909.

Please contact me privately on genealice@... if there is any
connection unless it is of general interest to the discussion group. Thanks!

searching for my half brother #general

moosenr@...

I am trying to get information about my half brother. He was a child during
the holocaust. He and his parents came >from Leipzig to Italy and were in
Ferramonte. His father's name was Jakob Buchaster. Jakob Buchaster died in
Auschwitz. His mother was named Paula Falek Buchaster. She survived both
Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen and emigrated to the United States where she
married Herman Speier. I am the daughter of Paula and Herman Speier.

Paula and Jakob Buchaster had a son named Manfred who was born on
September 13, 1938. I have two different addresses where they resided in Italy:
Viale delle Argonne XX, Milano (1939) and Via Ginlio Ubesti XX Milano
(dates unknown). They were deported >from Ferramonte to Auschwitz in
about 1943. As I said, Paula survived and Jakob died.

My mother had always told me that she gave Manfred to a family to
hide, but on the Yad Vashem Vebsite it lists Manfred as possibly haven
been given to a Monastery. I have been trying to determine if he is
alive. The papers on the Yad Vashem Website that provide this
information are stamped by the Unione Delle Comunita Israeltische
Italiane.

I would so much appreciate any help you can give me in finding
information about Manfred Buchaster. My e mail is moosenr@...
or speiers@... My telephone number at home is
XXX-XXX-XXXX. I speak English. Please contact me and let me know
how I can find out if my half brother is alive, or what happened to
him.

Thank you very much for any help you can provide

Hi Genners,

A memorial website for the jews of meppel is at the following URL

http://www.joodsmonumentmeppel.nl

It is worth a look to see the history of the Jews >from the town of Meppel,
who were virtually wiped out in WW 2.

I have found a distant link to my family there.

I'm looking for help in locating sources for newspapers >from Hannover,
Germany, circa 1932, both general circulation, and Jewish newspapers
from that city. Specifically, I'm looking for any articles pertaining to
my gf, Adolph WEINLAUB. Knowing no other place to start my search, I'm
throwing out the question to any of you out there who may be able to

GRUNWALD Minsk Mazoweiki Poland #general

Patrick Leonard <pottypat@...>

Researching Family Name GRUNWALD Minsk Mazoweiki, Poland.

My mothers name was Esther Grunwald? She was born in Minsk Mazoweiki. Her
family moved to Warsaw before the war possibly because of the scandal when
her sister married a local Gentile.
Her 2 brothers who remained behind with another sister and their children
died in the 'action' there. Her father, Chaim, died before the war.
Her mother, Rifka, was deported? with everyone else >from Warsaw. Only she
and her sister in Minsk Mazoweiki survived.
I have looked at the records on Minsk Mazoweiki and can find nothing about
them, but the family apparently was wealthy and owned companies. An
apartment block built in Warsaw still survives. Two uncles moved to America
before WWII. I have very little information as my mother passed away over 20
years ago and was reluctant to talk about it. Anyone help me?
