PERLBERG from Zabno-When Did They Die?? #general

Abuwasta Abuwasta

Thanks to all the Genners who helped me to confirm
that Salomon PERLBERG came in 1899 >from Zabno. They
also found the entry of his wife Alte in 1898(not via
the blue forms but the white forms of s. Morse). Both
were born around 1860.
Salomon ,his wife Annie(ex-Alte) lived in Manhatten,
115th Str. and had 4 kids:Isidore,Ester,Rosie and
Jack(Jacob).
I need the death certificates of Salomon and Annie but
have no idea when they died. They are not in the SSDI
so I presume that they died in the 20s or 30s.
Wonder whether any one recalls them or will have an
idea how to proceed.
Thanks,
Jacob Rosen

Hans WOLFF in Brazil #general

Steve Orlen

Dear Cousins,

This is for my wife's MARX family tree. (The family originated in
Buttenhausen, Germany.) In the mid-1930's, Hans WOLFF emigrated >from
Stuttgart, Germany to Brazil, and was since then lost to his family. He
would have been born circa 1915 to Selma nee MARX and Theodore WOLFF. His
brother was Fritz. No one alive knows what city he settled in. I imagine
his is a fairly common name. In fact, several years ago I found several men
with that name in a Brazilian phone directory. Does this name &
circumstance ring any bells with our Brazilian cousins?

Best, Steve Orlen

Russian translation needed/History of photographers' studios? #general

LISA BETROS <lk313@...>

Could someone translate the printing on the following photographs posted on
Viewmate?
VM 6948
VM 6949
VM 6950

I'd like to know the name of the photographer's studio, its location, and
any clues as to the dates of the photos. Even if someone can discern a
general date -- for example, if it is possible to tell if the photos were
taken in the first or last half of the 19th c. -- it would be helpful.

Has anyone researched and catalogued the history of photographer's studios
such as these?

My elderly aunt gave me these photos and told me that it is most likely
that they are of relatives of my grandfather, Louis FALKOFF. She can't
remember who gave them to her.

Louis FALKOFF/Leibe FALKOV, b. 1881, in Ludza, Latvia (Liutzen, Russia),
or nearby - > Brooklyn, New York in 1909 - > Canton, Ohio in 1920, d. 1954
in Cleveland, OH (He was in England or Scotland before coming to New
York, and in Washington state at some point in time, but I don't know the
dates.)

I'll post another email on the Falkoff family.

Please reply privately and I'll post a summary of the responses on the
digest.

Thank you.

Lisa Betros

I have just heard >from GerSig that Robert John Aumann has won the Nobel
Prize for Economics.

Given that this is a genealogy group a bit of a nachas is presumably
allowed.

We share a common greatgrandfather, Marcus Israel Landau - he is descended
from the first wife - and I am descended >from his second wife.
We are half-second cousins.

My father has just told me that when my maths lecturer uncle visited him a
few years ago in Israel Jonny Aumann's wife became exasperated that they
talked mathematics all evening!

Extermination Pits in the Konin Region, Poland (before Chelmno) #general

Ada Holtzman

I have posted a new page with information about extermination pits in the
Konin region of Poland, where following communities were murdered by the
Germans in WWII (before Chelmno, first German extrmination camp in Poland
started to be operational):

Golina Grodziec Kleczew Konin Kramsk Pyzdry Rychwal Rzgow Skulsk Slesin
Slupca Wilczyn Zagorow.

The two Polish researchers who gave me the information and whom I thank from
the bottom of my heart, Krzysztof Gorczyca & Zdzislaw Lorek, working in the
Chelmno excavation site for the Konin regional museum, promised they will
draw a map which will be posted as well in the future.
