DP camps in Sweden #general

Does anyone have any information about the Displaced Person camps in
Sweden in 1945? I believe 2 of the cities that housed former internees
were Ryd and Grymma (spelling?). I am specifically interested in these
camps in relation to the Ravensbruck
prisoners. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Need help from NYers #general

dayna reader <zoeys_mom@...>

My husband's g-GPs, Leiser & Esther Krugman died in
Monticello, (Sullivan Co.) NY, she about 1952, he
about 1972. He was supposedly the Rabbi of an Orthodox
shul in Monticello, although I haven't been able to
find which one yet.

My question for fo;lks who know the area is, what are
the names of the Jewish cemeteries in and around the
Monticello area? (This way I can call them up and
inquire as to whether they are buried there).

Thanks, and please respond privately.

All Jewishgenners,

There is a non commercial website called automatedgenealogy.com, that is
hosting a free and ongoing project to index the 1911 Canadian Census. This
website also has an index to the 1901 Canadian Census and a partial index to
the 1906 Census of the Northwest Provinces. The 1901 Census transcription is
99.9% complete, all that is missing >from it are two Books >from British
Columbia, Vancouver Island District, Cowichan Agency. I am doing the
transcription of them slowly as they are >from Indian Reservations.

The website address for AutomatedGenealogy is:
http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/

The link to the 1901 Census is:

The link to the 1906 Census is:

The link to the 1911 Census is:

Good luck in searching for your Canadian relatives.

warts #general

jutel@...

I come to this thread late, but might just add that some
unpleasant "warts" have helped me in my genealogy research!
I was surprised to find out that my great grandfather
appeared regularly in the court news of his local paper. He
was a pawn broker, and with his brother Michael, was
regularly charged with extortion, receiving, and other
unsavoury practices. Now, this ancestor had an unusual name
(and you'll note I am not going to tell you what it is. We
can keep our dirty laundry in the family. Maybe my cousins
feel more private about this than I do), and interestingly,
a Michael, pawn broker, by the same name, is found in the
Manitoba court pages. I had, disregarded this Michael,
convinced our family had never been near Canada. But, the
similarity of his dismeanor and occupation were clues that I
pursued, and which allowed me to follow his pathway from
Canada, to Colorado and finally to join his brother (my
great grandfather) in Utah. while I haven't been successful
yet, I am hoping that research in Manitoba may open some
doors to the old country which have been closed to present.

French Jewish Scouts (Dinard & Beaulieu/Dordogne) & ALTSHUL family (Paris & Switzerland) #general

Alice Josephs

My mother (born 1931) and her elder sister attended the De Hirsch school in
Paris (1938-9) and were evacuated with the Jewish scout movement first to
Dinard and then to Beaulieu in the Dordogne until June 1940.

There was an older girl called Annette and also children called Jeanette,
Helene, Marguerite and Simone (as with my mother, names of refugees of
non-French origin may have been made more French).

My mother met two other survivors >from that time after the war Madame
ALTSHUL who lived in Paris and her daughter Charlotte ALTSHUL who was in
Switzerland in 1948. There was also a son ALTSHUL who survived the war
elsewhere. Madame ALTSHUL may have been interned with my grandmother in the
Velodrome d'Hiver (the bicycle racing stadium) in Paris. The ALTSHUL mother
and daughter both had flaming red hair, if this jogs the memory of anyone.

So, is there anyone else out there who was at the De Hirsch school and/or
was evacuated to Dinard and Beaulieu at the same time as my mother? Have
there been any books or research on this?

im researching KATZ >from the warsaw area,my great

a town this does not exist in that context,it is
obviousley KUTNO,could anyone enlighten me as to
polish pronounciation, wether that means he was from

The Polish pronounciation of Kutno is KOOT-no. As far as I know, there is
no such thing as "Kutnow". It may be just a misspelled "Kutno". However,
the adjective of "Kutno" is "kutnowski" (male), "kutnowska" (female) and
"kutnowskie" (neutral).
Kutno is the seat of the Kutno County or "powiat kutnowski" in Polish.
from that obituary, would you think that "Kutnow" was in the Warsaw area?
Kutno is in the Lodz area.
