The Mohel Book of Alexander Tachauer from Nurenberg #germany

Abuwasta Abuwasta

The Pinkas Mohel or Sefer Habritot of the late Alexander Tachauer the Mohel
who lived in Nurenberg and performed circumcisions between 1919-1933 was
published privately by his children in Israel in 2002.

He lived in Nurenberg, but he performed also in Bamberg, Furth and other cities.
I got interested in it because of my family member Shmuel Koenigsbuch who
had his Brit in 1920. Alexander Tachauer circumcized also the known designer
Otto Treumann and Henri Kissinger.

The importance of it is that one may see the Hebrew name of the boy.
If you might be interested in data >from this list please contact me privately.

Sharon R. Korn <s.r.korn@...>

Regarding the suggestion that my ancestor's name could have been OSHRY,
rather than OSSUR or OSHER, that was an intriguing idea. However, I have my
grandmother's death certificate, for which my grandfather provided the
information (>from his personal knowledge) that her mother's maiden name was
OSSUR.

Death Certificates in Israel #general

Beryl. B <balden@...>

There seem to be so much contrary
debate on this subject, that >from personal
experience I can add the following:

One needs the Identity No. of the deceased
- together with identification proving one's
relationship to the deceased+-, should one require more
than the Official Death Certificate, which is automatically
sent to the next of kin after death, in the mail.
This is done through the Ministry of Interior .

I would imagine that outside of Israel
one could approach the Israeli Consulate, who could
possibly make an application on one's behalf.
However, the copy of the death certificate must then
be stamped by a notary in Israel saying that it is a
certified copy of the Death Certiciate.

Finding a NYC Death Certificate of a Suicide #general

Barbara Musikar

My great aunt died around 1921 in NYC on Houston St. in Manhattan. She
allegedly committed suicide. Her granddaughter does not know where she is
buried and was surprised when I told her that her grandmother was not buried
next to her grandfather at the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery in Staten Island,
NY.

from the discussion group archives, I learned that suicides were buried in a
separate section of the cemetery. When I spoke to the clerk at Baron de
Hirsch, she told me that my great aunt was not buried at that cemetery. Not
only can I not find her grave site, but I cannot find her death certificate
as well. I have tried looking for the death certificate on the NYC Death
indices for the appropriate time period as well as those Death indices
posted on www.italiangen.org. I have been unable to locate her under her
married name, CORN, original married name, KLEMPNER, and her maiden name,
ROISMAN. I also looked in all five boroughs as well as outside of NYC in the
NY State death indices.

Someone suggested that I check the coroner's reports or newspapers for that
time period. Does any one have any ideas where I can find the death
certificate? Is it possible that the certificate was unindexed or does not
exist?

I am also looking for my great grandmother's death certificate which I
cannot find as well, but thankfully she is buried in the same cemetery plot
near my great grandfather in Union Fields Cemetery in Cypress Hills. She
died of natural causes. I have visited several times in my youth and twice
recently. In the cemetery register she is registered incorrectly as Sarah
KLEINBERG when her name in fact was Sarah KLEMPNER. On her tombstone she is
Sarah KLAMPNER. I looked her up under all three last names and I have yet to
find her death certificate as well. She is also not listed on the NYS Death
indices, NYC Death indices and on www.italiangen.org death indices. She died
on May 30, 1917 so I also have a date to go by, but alas have not found her
certificate. Any suggestions for locating her death certificate as well?

TIA for your help in these matters.

Re: Bayside Cemetery et al #general

Sara Lynns

In researching "Lerner" family
I've come across leads about where my paternal
grandparents might be buried

In contacting several New York cemeteries, including
Bayside, I've not been able to glean information.
typical responses I get are:
"when did this person die?" "I'll get back to you."
then I followup (perhaps a week or two later)
or... they simply are asking (indirectly) for a
donation to do the search, which evidently is or can
be time consuming.

It is difficult, I'll admit, >from 3,000 miles away
to determine the best course of action.

I'd appreciate feedback >from Jewishgenners
