KAPELUSZNIK - Lodz. #lodz #poland

Nigel Wilson <wilsonettes@...>

Seeking information on the following family members:-

KAPELUSZNIK - Mordechai and Baila (nee MICHALEVICH) originally came >from
Odessa but they moved to Lodz abt. 1910.

They had 6 children, Sarah their first child was born in Lodz in 1913,
shortly afterwards Mordechai and Baila who ran a junk business in Lodz,
moved to the town of Kolo, where their other children were born - Malka
1917, Yedel 1921, Lola 1925, Bluma 1927 and Rifka 1929. They lived on Ulica
Zenica Street.

Lola appears to be the only surviving member of her family, after the war
she tried to return to Kolo but was persuaded not to do so as it was too
dangerous.

Eventually she married in 1946 and in 1951 immigrated with her husband and
daughter to the United States.

No pages of testimony were ever made out for Lola's family - she was given
to understand that they perished in Chelmo, but she has no proof.

If anyone has knowledge of the above KAPELUSZNIKS, or is indeed a relation
that somehow survived the Shoah, Lola at the age of 82 is still looking for
any information about her extended family.

Please contact me privately.

Thank you.

Yasnogorodka, Ukraine #general

Joan Rosen <jgrosen@...>

Is there a newer name for Yasnogorodka, Ukraine? That name was used (at
least) in the 19th century. It is not recognized on the FTDNA page where I
am trying to add my ancestral information. Its coordinates are 50 deg. 21'
by 30 deg. 01' (or in decimals, 50.35 by 30.0167)

Thanks for your help.

VIiewmate: Translation from Lithuanian of list of murdered from Lithuania during 1941-1944 #general

Ilan Ganot <iganot@...>

Yad-Vashem's online Shoah Related Lists database includes lists of murdered
from Lithuania during 1941-1944, prepared by the Extraordinary State
Commission to Investigate German-Fascist Crimes Committed on Soviet
Territory.

Link to the database:
http://www.yadvashem.org/lwp/workplace/listoflist/?WT.mc_id=lolen

Being one of the co-Webmasters of the Mazheik (Mazeikiai) Memorial Website I
am interested in translating the list related to this Shtetl.
The list seems to be written in Lithuanian.

The list of Mazeikiai can be accessed >from the database by searching for
Mazeikiai at the "Places" field, and then selecting "List of murdered from
Mazeikiai in 1941-1944" at the list of results.

I have uploaded the following files to Viewmate:
VM9399: Introduction to the list and Header of the table
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=9399

VM9400: Summary of the list, signatures and end-note (in Russian).

STAM from Suwalki (EPSTEIN & SMORGONSKI connections) #general

ewolfson@...

Researching family of Chana Dwora STAM b. 1849 Suwalki, dau. of Efroim STAM &
Necha DWORSKI. There are several documents available through the JRI-P site,
but I am trying to establish whether Chana Dwora married in Suwalki, and to
whom. I believe she is my great-great grandmother Anna Dora "STONE"
(1849-1949) who m. Abram Icko SMORGONSKI (WOLFSON) of Sejny. Chana Dwora
STAM's brother, Jacob, is found going to a sister C. EPSTEIN at the address for
my g-g-grandparents in Pittsburgh. Either there is sister C. who is not Chana
Dwora (perhaps a Chawa?), or there was some confusion in the ship manifest.

The STAM family of Suwalki, Kalywaria, and Augustow did change their name to
STONE in the USA. They appear to have primarily settled in Newark, NJ, but
have also heard of cousins in Baltimore (including a dentist Stone),
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and my family has a tradition of Boston.

There may also be a connection to Rabbi Israel STAM of Kelme, who was born in
Grodno area, and apparently died in Israel.

Thanks in advance for your attention to this.

Seeking Assistance in finding Proof of Qualification for Reparations for Holocaust Survivor #general

Cindy Gallard <cmgcmg@...>

For the past several years I have been attempting to assist an
elderly holocaust survivor submit his claim for reparations >from the
German Article-2 Fund, unfortunately without success. As a child he
witnessed the brutal killing of his mother and father and with the death
of his grandmother, was left, a child of ten, alone in the world to fend
for himself.

My most recent communication >from the Conference on Jewish
Material Claims Against Germany, Inc stated their rejection of his claims
on the basis of lack of proof. In order to qualify he must prove that he
was born in Lutsk-Kozlovsk, Belarus, that he is Jewish, that he was
detained in the camp Borok. Any assistance or advise anyone can provide
would be must appreciated.
