Visit to Salantai #lithuania

Maggie Bonfield <bonturn2@...>

I would be grateful if anyone could help me please. I am visiting
Lithuania in September to look at the village where my maternal Great
Grandparents and Grandfather lived at the end of the 1800s. Can anyone
give me any tips please? Has anyone visited there?

There seem to be few records left about the Rogal/Rogolsky s, but I
guess I just want to "see".

I am also seeking info about;

Abraham Rogal 1909-1973 and his wife Cecilia Sandor Rogal 1909- 1982
who were living at 5 Brighton Ct Brooklyn in 1938.

Abraham's sister Minnie Rogal born 1908 in NY City.

Abraham's sister Sylvia Kirsch Rogal born 1916 NY and died in L.A. 1994.

Abe/Minnie/Sylvia s parents were Albert Rogal born 1881 and Mary Getz
Rogal born c 1890 died April 1983 in LA.

Julius Rogal - was one of 4 brothers - Albert/Harry/Sol who according
to the New York Directory of 1925 formed Rogal Furniture Co. Julius
was born 1888 married Bertha Commike who died and he then married Edna?

The parents of Julius/Harry/Sol/Albert/Helen/ possibly also Fannie and
Max (my "English grandfather") were Simon 1855-1916 (died in
Manhattan)and Sarah Siskind Rogal 1858-1931(died in the Bronx). Simon
I am told was a Rabbi in what was then Russia; my grandfather wrote he
was a School teacher on his naturalisation certificate.

best wishes

Re: Thanks and found Kronprinzessin Cecilie manifest for 5 Oct 1900 #general

Ara Morenberg <amorenberg@...>

Thanks to all of you who answered my inquiry regarding the "missing" manifest for
the 5 Oct 1900 arrival of the USS Kronprinzessin Cecilie.

I believe that I have thanked personally all who wrote me privately, but I'd also
like to thank those who wrote me through the JGDG Digest. Yes, huge kudos are owed
Steve Morse for creating the Missing Manifest tool on his site. I had actually
tried it, but was obviously using it inproperly. I now know how to use it properly
and very much appreciate the instruction provided by members of this group.

In locating this manifest, I was able to confirm that my great great grandmother
actually emigrated to and died in the US. This is an utterly amazing discovery
since my great grandmother never mentioned to my father or aunt (who she lived
with) that she had relatives living in the US.

I have also been able to track down living LEVIN family members because of this
manifest and some helpful JGenners who did some great searching through the NY
Times Archives and came up with obituaries that were quite helpful in locating
these living family members with such a common last name.

Thanks to you all.

Yes the names have been indexed. This link takes you to the NARA search engine:

If someone worked for the OSS it should pull up their name and provide file

New book by JewishGen: "Belzec: Stepping Stone to Genocide" #ciechanow #poland

Joyce Field

JewishGen is pleased to announce a new book in its Publish on Demand
series and a new easy method of ordering all the books in this series.

The new book is "Belzec: Stepping Stone to Genocide" by Robin O'Neil.
This is an expanded and newly-edited version of the book that is on
JewishGen's Yizkor Book site. The book will be sold for $49.95;
however, for the first 30 days, the book will be sold at an
introductory price of $44.95. The book will be on display at the
JewishGen desk at the IAJGS, but copies can only be ordered online or
by phone. All Publish on Demand books can be ordered at
<http://www.pickmanmuseumshop.com/jewishgen.html> or by phoning
1-646-437-4213.

Belzec was the prototype death camp, the precursor of Sobibor and
Treblinka. Secretly commissioned by the highest authority of the Nazi
state, it acted outside the law of civil and military conventions of
the time. Robin O'Neil takes the reader step by step into the
background of the "Final Solution" and gives eyewitness testimony as
the mass graves were located and recorded.

Remember that the introductory price is available only through September 15.

Unfortunately, I realize now that I did not give you enough

The man in question had no sons, only two daughters (both deceased)

I hope this clarifies things.
