Finding Out About GerSIG Interest Sessions at IAJGS Conference in Seattle #germany

Jeanette R Rosenberg OBE

Dear GerSIG Members

The IAJGS Seattle Conference Team have been working very hard to
assess and choose the lectures they want us to hear this coming summer
at conference, >from the very many they were offered. Now that their
results are starting to emerge, I am very hopeful that we will have a
wonderful and varied GerSIG interest schedule to offer you in August.

With that in mind, I would be grateful if you could tell me if you
have heard that your proposal has been accepted for Seattle and if
your session is of GerSIG interest.

As ever, my plan is to be able to provide you with a listing/summary
of the GerSIG interest events at conference, and to do this as soon as
is practicable. I have already heard >from some people about the
sessions they will deliver. Best regards, Jeanette

Is the German Minority Census for 1938 occupied Austria available on line? #germany

henry wellisch

According to the latest edition of Nu? What's New? portions of this
census are now available on the internet through the Tracingthepast
website, where it is stated that this census includes the Germany
with in the 1938 borders plus the Sudetenland and also occupied Austria.

I checked the list of cities and areas of this census, which are
available on the Leo Baeck Institute and the Familyhistory websites and
found that indeed there is one microfilm roll for the Sudetenland,
but there is none for Austria. My question is this:

Was this census actually conducted in Austria or was the Austrian
part of the census lost?

NATHAN family research #germany

Katharine Nathan <nathankatharine8@...>

Hello GerSig,

I just recently joined the group. I have been doing genealogy research
for two years. I consider myself to be or a beginner in doing German
Jewish Genealogy research. I live in urban Chicago, Illinois in the
United Sates. My native language is English and I also know French. I
consider myself advanced in using a computer. My experience in using the
Internet is extensive.

I have identified the names and birth and death
dates of my grandparents, my great grandparents all the way to the
fourth level great grandparents. My primary research goals now are to
find the father of Isaac (Yitzhak) NATHAN who was born in 1795 and
died 7.10.1871. He is buried in the Jewish cemetery (Vallendar) at
Weitersburg, Mayen-Koblenz, Rhineland. This record is >from JewishGen.

My JGFF Researcher ID number is 702816. I would like to identify
Isaac's father. I did find one reference that his name might
be Nathan NATHAN but this seems unusual. If you have information I will
appreciate your sharing it with me.
