My father's name was: Gerhard LOEWE (1909)

My mother's name was: Edith BARANGER (1913)

I would be very greatful if some one out there could help me.

Thank you very much.
Kind regards.

Warsaw Ghetto Info? #general

Mary K

Pardon my stupidity but why isn't there data for the Warsaw Ghetto as is
for the Lodz Ghetto? On Jewishgen.org the info is readily available for
the Lodz Ghetto...and there is so much info I need to obtain about the
Warsaw Ghetto like relatives names and addresses and when they died there
etc.Any thoughts would be so appreciated of course...

Debby Gincig Painter

Does anyone have the time to find a will for
Morris GINCIG/GINZIG who died March 29, 1950 in (I believe) Manhattan.
He was a jeweler. I just need the names of the beneficiaries.

Also chances are there you would come across a second Morris Gincig/Ginzig
in NYC who was a printer. Though I am pretty sure the above Morris Gincig/
Ginzig is the family relation, this Morris Gincig/Ginzig's information might
also be handy to have (just in case).

Thank you

looking for Szalszend, near Miskolc #general

Pat Shaw <pshaw@...>

Hi Genners All,

Can anybody give me any information about Szalszand, located several
miles due north of Miskolc. My GGF, William FRIEDMANN, was born there
in 1858 and as we are going to Hungary later in the summer, I would
like to know if anyone can advise me where to go to look for his birth
records. I have already looked on the jewishgen site, as well as on
the Hungarian databases, to no avail.

Also, my GGM, Sarah (CZINER) Friedmann, was born in Buzinke, I think
in the northeast part of Hungary. Any information of this place would
be greatly appreciated.

Dear Genners,

I have distant relatives, David KARLIN and his son Morris who lived in New
Haven, Connecticuit early in the 20th century. Both have "PA" on the
census forms so I assume Declarations were submitted. My question is where,
geographically would they do this and where would I find the records?

My second question is about my great aunt, Sadie SALBERG. In her
Naturalization document she says that her husband Louis is >from Siedlec,
Poland. I found 13 towns on Jewishgen by this name. How do I determine
which is the correct one?

Thank you,

Surname/Shtetl? #romania

Molly Staub

My father's surname in America, already chosen by the relatives here,
was AROST (pronounced Ar'ist). He told me that in then-Romania (now Moldova),
it was pronounced CHAR-OST.

The town he came from, near Soroki, is listed on the manifest as Servio.
ShtetlSeeker says this is now Corjova. However, I can't find any mention
of either on the web site.

Can anyone help out? Thanks.

Advokaturskandidat / Beamter in Vienna in the 1920s #austria-czech

Dana Dimitriu

Hello all,

this is my second question into this round, encouraged by the feedback I
received to my first message :-)

I have requested and received information >from the Wiener Stadt und Landes-
archiv - Historische Meldeunterlagen (MA8) - which deals with information
about people who were registered as living in Vienna (and I have to say I
am greatly impressed with their service as apart >from responding very promptly
they have also given me a lot of information). [ The link to this department
is: http://www.wien.gv.at/amtshelfer/kultur/archiv/historischemeldeunterlagen.html ]

Here is an excerpt of the latest data I received:
Laura NEUMANN, geboren 10.4.1888 in Czernowitz, mosaisch, Heimatzustaendigkeit:
Bukowina, ledig,
2.10.1918 =96 19. 5.1920: 20, Heinzelmanngasse 7/1/8
Abmeldevermerk: "verehelicht mit Dr. Wilhelm Halpern, Advokaturskandidat"
Dr. Wilhelm HALPERN, geboren 18.8.1890 in Kopyczynce in Galizien,
mosaisch, verheiratet, Beamter,
10. 1.1922 =96 6. 2.1930: 20, Heinzelmanngasse 7/1/8

My questions are - and I am hoping somebody can give me a hint where to search further:
1.) "Advokaturskandidat" means to me that he was working on getting his lawyer's
degree - is there any possibility to find out where? I am assuming must have been
a university - but not sure. Where could I start looking?
2.) "Beamter" means to me he was employed by the state - again, my question is
are you aware of a place in Austrian archives where I could find more information
on his employment?
3.) The address "Heinzelmanngasse 7" appears in all reports I received >from this
department - seems to have been something like a family house :-).
Is there any way to find out if it belonged to any one family member?

Thank you in advance,

Dana Dimitriu
